Are people still hardcore doing this? I mean I know leading up to the big Mayan 2012 apocalypse farce you could make fortune selling MRE's and Conex box shelters, but are people still fearing the end in mass? Every doomsayer has gotten it wrong and there have been no new end dates since 2012. What's driving it now?

I keep a small stockpile of water, canned food, and fuel for things like hurricane season.

I guess now I'm going to have to prep for winter, after the ice storms we've had.

It's a good idea to have stuff like this, as long as you don't get paranoid and go completely overboard.

I mean i have emergency kits, but not a Doomsday Preppers bunker and years of food stores awaiting the apocalypse.

There is difference between emergency preparedness and Doomsday Prepping.

Obama/Progs/World Authoritarian Socialists desire to CRASH the Dollar, in order to undermine the domination of the USA/Capitalist economic/military power.

One can scoff, and post the little 'black helicopter' thingies, but it is pretty damn obvious to any smart person who would simply PUT THEMSELVES in a strategic position of being a 'social justice' devotee, and envision just WHAT strategy should be employed to further this moral-based, Statist/Collectivist impetus.

And honestly, given that this Nation's economy and all the COMING bailouts/subsidies/entitlements in relation to a concurrent and EXPONENTIALLY SHRINKING economy...the dynamics of inflation, debt interest, and the need for government to remain the arbiter of 'spreading the wealth around'...it's not rocket science to see where this thing will go. They WILL PRINT money. And we'll all 'take the number of the beast' and be damn glad to get our paltry - but 'fair' - share of it. It's that...or the Argentinian version of economic Darwinism.

Open your mind, NT...expand it. World Socialism (I.e., 'social justice') is a morality-based Ideology; a virtual Religion. They are all in. Their conscience, their psychological health...demands it.

Think Katrina, if you were on the outskirts, buddy. Good luck.

Well that seals it for me! I'm quitting my job cashing in the 401K and taking my conex box, AR15, piss distiller and dried beans and heading to the mountains to prepare of the Obama progresapocalypse!

I've thought about learning how to distill as a hobby. That skill would be useful.

Use silver solder. If you don't have an oxy-acetylene set, you might can make one of those mapp gas outfits at walmart work.

You can modify a large pressure cooker for the pot. It makes clean out much easier.

I'm not "hardcore" about it, but when the tornadoes hit around here and we were without power for two weeks, the stuff comes in handy.

Another handy thing to have is a propane-fueled generator wired into your house. Mine has a fuel line directly to my 500 gal propane tank. No need to worry about gasoline degrading in the carburetor.

No need to go off the rails, NT. You might well serve the best interest of Humanity, by remaining loyal and strong around your immediate circle who won't be doing the 'survivalist' thing. After watching the movie "The Road"...survival might not be the optimum choice. Sometimes...dying honorably - while loving the one closest to you - is the ticket to a good life. Of course, that goes into the 'Faith' paradigm.

Good luck.

See but i think people miss the point of what a prepper is. Most of these nut jobs aren't prepping for a temporary disaster.

They are preparing for the end of civilization. I mean some of these people spend their entire day training and hording shite for the end of days. The spend all of their money on bunkers, fortifications, training and ammo. They live "or don't live depending on your perspective" every day in preparation for surviving the apocalypse. Why not just live your life and when the end comes frick it...it's over. Why suffer now to ensure you can prolong your suffering later?

I just like the idea of being as self-sufficient as possible in case something bad happens. Knowing I can take care of my basic needs for an extended period brings me comfort.

I don't have a problem with that. Hell i don't have a problem with the full blown nut job type of pepper. Well, except for those who force their wives and children to do it against their will. I think they should allow their kids to have normal lives. But if prepping is what makes then happy...go for it. Me i like to be self-sufficient, but also enjoy life.

I am thinking of becoming prepared to hunker down. I have guns, precious metals, an abode in the country, etc. There are some things that I do not have.

A reliable source of water. I could have someone drill a well and then later use it with a Honda pump. Or I could buy a copper still and use it for distilling water and making moonshine. I'd bet that liquor would be fairly valuable. I know how to raise tobacco, but waiting for it to cure could be problematic.

I am seriously considering going wide open throttle as a doomsday prepper. Even if I never need to be one it could be a lot of fun preparing for when the SHTF.

it is an interesting question, as the collapse is almost inevitable

do i enjoy the very best of life now, while life is good...and ensure a painful and short existence after the collapse..

OR

do i prepare myself to grind out my personhood in terms of self preservation?

the easy answer is obviously to live life now...but that's short-term, obviously

Prepping is for fools. I'm getting rich during the apocalypse. I've got an AR and about 100 rds. That will be enough to take a few of the prepper idiots, steal their shir and start my empire.

I'm not suffering. I've had my ups and downs but as a whole my life has been pretty good.

But why would I not want to do everything possible to preserve my bloodline and race? In my view not doing so would be cowardly.

I agree that when you have a family, you should take some precautions. Having lived for 10 days without basic services in the aftermath of the tornados in 2011, mine were relatively simple. I bought 8 five gallon home depot buckets with lids, filled them with dried foods, and sealed them with duct tape. I keep them, with 10 cases of water in the garage closet.... Total cost was less than 300.00 dollars

Here's the deal - if you stock up on food you basically have to start eating & replacing it unless you're rich enough to throw it away when it gets old.

Backpacking supplies. Soon as armageddon hits, my family and I are packing it out of the city and as far away from other humans as possible. We'll let you all kill each other while we sleep in the middle of nowhere.

I have been prepping for several years. Lots of food, water, ammo, medical supplies, etc. My question to any serious preppers. Is there a way 2 have fresh soda wafers, crackers, over an extended period of time?
