Donaldsonville has been the parish seat of Ascension Parish since the Parish's founding. However, over the years, Donaldsonville has lost much of its power and influence to the Eastern part of the Parish. Now, some council meetings are held in Gonzales. The parish courthouse often operates out of the Gonzales court house.

With Donaldsonville floundering with high crime, stagnant growth (if there's any at all), and rampant poverty, could you forsee a scenario where Gonzales usurps Donaldsonville as the official permanent Parish Seat of Ascension Parish?

I'm so intrigued, I'm dying to see what you've got for the gaming and soccer boards.

Yes.

Because frick donaldsonville. It has little, if any redeeming value whatsoever. East Ascension is where it's at.

The only thing still going for Donaldsonville is that it's the parish seat. Just like other towns in the area (White Castle, Plaquemine, etc) the town has suffered severely from people with jobs moving out and people without jobs staying and multiplying.

It would have been most fitting to first post on the help board considering the towns steady decline over the past 2 decades

Would the Fark Board contain a request of a pic of a meth trailer?

Funny thing is, the loop (with a bridge around Plaquemine or White Castle) that many of those people have fought against for years, would have been their saving grace. All of those were more interesting places than anything in East Ascension or Livingston. Oh well.

Some of these places still try to cling to the self-sufficient small town mentality of previous generations. My grandfather was a prominent figure in White Castle for many years and always said the city's downfall was not allowing outside businesses in when franchising started taking off in the 70's & 80's. Everyone wanted to keep everything local and when the state's economy went to shite during the oil price crash, so too did those communities. And they've never recovered. :(

I stayed in Donaldsonville for several months while working on a river crossing job in Convent.
