Dolly's first live performance was in Lake Charles. Her first recording was at Goldband Records in Lake Charles.

RIP Dolly.
I’m old enough to remember when GOP leadership defunded Dolly’s Imagination Library reading program in multiple states. Oh wait, that’s happening now.

Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUM

Sad day. I met her at an event she hosted for Helene relief in the fall of 2024. Special woman to put it mildly. She raised millions that night and didn’t tell a soul. She didn’t want the attention or the credit.
Her cultural impact beyond her music can’t be understated.

Damn. I knew something was up earlier this year when she was doing a major scale back of her live performances....just figured it was the fact that at 70/80 she needed and deserved some rest.....and I believe her husband had recently died.
None of the legends are getting any younger. Willie is over 90. Keith Richards is almost 82. Daltrey is 82 . Townsend is 81 . Frankie Valli is about 91 or 92. Mc Cartney is 84. Page is 82. JPJ is 80. Jagger is 83. Ray Davies is 82. Ringo Starr ( Rich Starkey) is 86 . Just to name a few.
So much for living fast , dying young and leaving a good looking corpse

Can you progressives not afford to pool your own funds to replace tax payer monies?
It sounds like it’s important to you so why not take action?

The money is there. The moral imagination is not.

You’re also against using a little bit of tax money to give books to children?

How is it the Federal Govenment's fault that a private organization can't get by without Federal Handouts? Since when is this a federal issue?

The board is called Political Talk. If not here, where? Go to the OT if you want to wax poetic about Dolly’s death.

Sometimes, objectively positive programs are a good use of funds. It’s attempting to help provide a service that the federal government completely abdicated and that the State’s are failing to adequately provide.
Subsidizing books to kids isn’t the problem. It’s not even a rounding error.
