I agree with most of your sentiment about it being insane.
But,
That's just bullshite.
Republicans have moved Left on damn near every issue versus 20 years ago.
Democrats have moved wayyy left.
My Dad is an old school Clinton Democrat.
He's "far right" today after changing nearly zero views.

BamaATL is like most of them - alienated, unloved, bitter. That some now go so far as to gleefully push disturbed kids to suicide as a result of their own unhappiness and purposelessness is inconceivable to decent human beings.
It's probably best not to try to understand them. A reasonable, substantive society would not tolerate them in public life, but alas we're spineless.
