The reality is that all of these programs are being cut and the impact has been minimal at best. That tells me all I needed to know about the excess, overreach, and redundancy of the federal government.

I think Musk and Co. got caught up in the whirlwind of "we want immediate results!" and felt like they had to make big moves quickly to quell the dissenters.

Whereas they originally set a target date of 1.5 years for their advise on cuts to be made, the hysteria of the election and millions of doubters in the MSM and social media made DOGE feel like they had to make moves quickly and show results now - or else have a contingent of millions talking shite and doubting their usefulness. Think "this was just a favor by Trump to gain Elon attention, they haven't done anything" type sentiment running rampant.

I don't think they anticipated the amount of attention they'd receive right off the bat, and thought they'd be able to make measured cuts with tons of data backing them up. But their existence turned into a firestorm and it fed this "we need to show results NOW" mentality

Well Trump finally seems to agree with the melting libs on this.

Limits on Musk

"As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go."

"Trump confirmed reports in the US media that he had convened his cabinet in person on Thursday to deliver the message that they, not Musk, were in charge of their departments.

Trump told his team, with Musk in the room and on board, that the tech billionaire and top donor was authorized to recommend firings and other cuts but not to enforce them, according to Politico.

"It's very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it's also important to keep the best and most productive people," the president said, adding that follow-up cabinet meetings on DOGE would come every two weeks"
