It is an easy way to save him from spending the rest of his life defending against frivolous lawsuits.
Like that E Jean Carroll lady that he never even met accusing him of sexual assault.
There really is no lawsuit that could have actual merit, so it kinda make sense.

Yes, but one can hope that your mom didn't do everything in her power to ruin you, at every opportunity presented to her. Or outright manufacture reasons for her to come after you.
The dumbs have made it clear that they will go mafia on family members, and lawfare is their new tool. It's easy to see they'd do it to 47, so it's easy to see they'd do it to his family as well.

This really is the answer.
