Single lawyer in Virginia making $150k/year will still see a federal tax break even if you itemize and have deductions of $10,000 + SALT. You've got to find a very specific situation to say this won't help salaried professionals in the $100-$200k range.
Please show me that. Good faith request. Your post seemed in good faith. Assume someone making that still owes ~$350-$600k on a mortgage (at a good 3.3% rate) and has attendant property taxes.

I'm single and salaried in the 100-200k range. It saves me 2.6k.

It's worth noting my deductions weren't enough to warrant more than the standard deduction, so I get full benefit from the deduction doubling.

smh, a pill-pushing drug dealer gets to rake in such princely sums.

I actually get less than actual retail drug pushers. That's my reward for doing extra work and training to be clinical.

If you don't mind me asking, are you working for a retail chain or a proprietary holding?

ETA: just curious cause I know a baw who owns a few stores and a compounding business and he makes so much money that I want to cry

Maybe if you're single yet inexplicably have a McMansion but for the most part we'll come out fine. I'm not a fan of this tax plan for several reasons but it will undeniably benefit me.

Then how do you explain the fact that I fit that description exactly and will benefit?

See Tiguars response and Iosh’s. May have something to do with one’s itemized deductions still exceeding the new standard deduction by a bit and the difference in state tax liabilities. As I said, I barely save in no-tax Washington. I barely lose in Virginia.

How many single people making six figures are itemizing though?

Yes. Recently accepted a FB request from some girl in high school and immediately realized why I never like her. Couple of weeks ago she posted about how everything she's read leads her to believe that the tax plan was going to make her homeless. Everyone was telling her she was wrong but she just stuck her fingers in her ears and screamed at the sky.

We’re losing sight of my original point. I think it’s a good bill because the answer to that is “relatively few.” And the benefits to the economy could be significant. But not everyone who doesn’t stand to benefit is making $25k a year waiting tables at Red Robin.

Um, the vast majority of Americans will benefit. That’s a mathematical fact.

I said that not everyone who doesn’t benefit is a super high earner or super low earner and noted that the bill clearly isn’t targeted to benefit single filers in a certain tax range. And I made a point to note that while I won’t be hurt by it, guys in major metros with higher real estate costs, state taxes, and property taxes won’t much benefit.

We’re not even disagreeing about this, my tamberine man.

What’s the justification for making the middle/lower class tax cuts temporary? It just seems like any easy talking point for the Dems to criticize the bill.

Corporate tax cuts are unpopular, individual tax cuts are popular. Making the popular part temporary means the 2026 Congress is less likely to actually let it expire.
