I guess the republican thing is to do whatever you can to push America down relative to the rest of the world. Idiocracy led by the reality tv huckster.
Seriously, what’s with the crazy responses? You can be a republican and still agree with a common democratic policy position. Universal Pre-K is something all Americans should get and something all Americans should agree upon.
The fact is America is falling behind in education, getting kids into schools earlier can substantially improve their long term educational goals and give them an excellent head start going into K-5th.
We already have this legislation in 44 states with success, but the ones not seeing success are states not pushing enough $ into the program(MS with only $2000 per student). The fact is the opportunity cost of increased education earlier in a child’s life will provide more $’s in the long term.
The republican stance here should be to find the economically best value for student to $ ratio and figure out how much we should spend per student and what are the quantitative values that are calculated once the child hits the workforce.
Hypothetically, if spending $1 on a student early in their life increases their readiness for elementary and beyond, basic reading, and basic math, the effects of the lower class could be extraordinary for the economy even if the policy only worked at a 20% effectiveness rate.
Democrats(generally) spend too much here and we end up overusing public dollars without seeing the right metrics for success.

MrFizzle, here’s my issue
If you want to create a program that provides free or reduced-priced pre-k for low and lowish middle income families, that’s fine.
But I don’t think it is right or fair for public dollars to be going to rich and upper middle families who already can easily afford to send their kids to pre school.
It’s an inefficient use of tax dollars to spend money on people who would already be doing that thing even without the subsidy
An efficient use of tax money would be a situation where, in the absence of a subsidy, that kid would not be going to pre-k.
Get what i am saying? Tax money sent to rich families to get free pre-k would be MUCH better spent on low income high schools or middle schools for better technology or new classes or something

The default position is the have an ulterior motive for EVERYTHING they do and it is somehow connected to them getting more power.
WHen is the last time they did something altruistic?

Does it say anything about universal pre-k in the Constitution? If not, it is something Americans should get, and pay for, if they so choose.

The fact is, America’s idiotic education policies have teachers spending the bulk of their time trying to educate those who are the lowest in their class, essentially letting the intelligent and gifted educate themselves. We let the upper 25% or more fend for themselves educationally, so that teachers can formulate, maintain, implement, and monitor individual learning plans for each child who is a certain level of low. Doing this to teachers, at the expense of the better, brighter, harder working, more disciplined kids, has a hell of a lot more to do with our education rankings.

It’s yet another way for the left to get more control of everybody’s income via forced confiscation and redistribution. And it’ll never be enough.
This is all they have. Every major piece of legislation coming from the left has the same thing at its core: forced confiscation and redistribution of wealth. It’s what they are.

You think getting kids in school an extra year early is somehow going to make our kids "educated"? They already get our kids for 13 years for school, and see how that's going?
Rethink your thinking.

What republican policies have been implemented into schools?
Did we send in transgender drag queens to read to them?
Oh yeah, that wasn't us.
