I find it ironic when "conservatives" advocate for the "Fair Tax" (23% consumption tax with prebates) and rail against tariffs (which are consumption taxes on specific imports) to respond to unfair trade practices with trading partners.
Look, ALL taxes are bad but tariffs are FAR less insidious than progressive marginal income taxes. Tariffs can be detrimental...see Smoot-Haley. If the federal government is going to centrally plan, and they will, we need competent leaders that help the nation, not hurt it.
