A DeSantis spokesman said the governor was pleased that an agreement had been reached. “This agreement is a big win for central Florida and will lead to numerous jobs and improved guest experiences,” said Bryan Griffin, communications director for the governor’s office.

The agreement followed a detente in March in which both sides agreed to stop litigating each other in state court

And after that he signed another bill banning bump stocks

This does not sound like the win you think it is. I doubt they gave to him. DeSantis is better than that. No way he would agree to stop litigating in state court with them and then accept money from them. I say that with all sincerity. Are you positive that Disney gave DeSantis money?

RDS stopped litigating with Disney after he beat them.
Sort of like the way the US stopped bombing Germany after they surrendered.

Are you saying there was no agreement between RDS and Disney over litigation? Or are you saying the DeSantis appointee board didn’t reach an investment deal with Disney? Or both?

You don’t see how a company spending 17 billion dollars in construction and development and the economic opportunity it creates is helpful to Florida?

Agreed. In fact that was my thought process from the beginning. Your same analysis was also applicable when the effort to hobble Disney first occurred. I thought it was pretty counterproductive from the get go.

After Disney backed down. Disney will not be trying to interfere in Florida culture wars again.
DeSantis won and Disney lost.

The settlement leaves in place a district court ruling rejecting Disney’s claim that DeSantis had violated its constitutional rights. Disney had alleged that DeSantis illegally retaliated for its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education law, which restricts classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity, and had sought to rescind the state takeover. U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor dismissed Disney’s First Amendment suit in January, finding that Florida had the power to revoke the district, and that its motives for doing so were irrelevant. At the time, Disney vowed to pursue an appeal, saying the case had “serious implications for the rule of law.” “If left unchallenged, this would set a dangerous precedent and give license to states to weaponize their official powers to punish the expression of political viewpoints they disagree with,” a Disney spokesman said at the time.

RDS called their bluff. He basically told them that they were not going to get involved in what Florida allows to be taught in their schools. He revoked their sweetheart deal with Reedy telling them that they weren’t going to get all of these special privileges from the state, and then stick their nose where it didn’t belong.
Disney took RDS to Court, and they lost.

Was there a trial or did they just lose some pre trial motions and then enter into a settlement? I honestly don’t know. I don’t recall a trial and what you posted appears to support a settlement.

And I support RDS in all of this. I was simply pointing out the optics are bad if he entered into a settlement then accepted a donation. Which I do not believe he did.

They lost in a hearing before a District Judge.
It’s in the article. They tried to sue RDS on First Amendment grounds, and lost.
It was pretty obvious that they were going to lose. They had no “right” to Florida’s subsidies, and the special powers they were given with Reedy Creek.
They pretty much know not to pull anything like that again.

Read the article. It’s from Vanity Fair. Not exactly a Right Wing microphone.
Disney lost.
They need Florida. They are bleeding money with their bombs in theaters.
It’s not as if they could pick up the properties and move them somewhere else.
They lost.

ETA They dropped their appeal and agreed to spend billions in development, creating jobs, and drawing more tourists to Florida.
It’s a win for Florida and DeSantis.

The point was for them not for them as a company to take official, active positions on leftist political matters in Florida.

bullshite. is Ron going to send anti-leftist officers to enforce no gay shite at Disneyland? lol

Is Disney banned from broadcasting leftist tv shows in Florida?

and yes they will still push their shite, because it is not illegal to push gay shite down everyones throat.

Nobody can do that, that’s unconstitutional. You want Disney to stop being pro-gay? The only thing that you can do is boycott them. Disney tried to get Florida to back down on forbidding the sexualization of children in schools, and they lost. Bigly.

I thought boycotting was what was up, based on immovable principle.

wait, you actually believe that Florida schools have stopped teaching LGBTQ in their curriculums? oh boy.

Disney is just going to use a non profit to keep their DEI shite going. nothing is going to happen. Ron didn't win anything.
