According to Devoss it's now perfectly fine to discriminate against race, sexual orientation, and being disabled in federally funded schools.

Our local school has a disabled child right now that you, I, and everyone else knows has zero chance of being anything but a disabled person who will require round the clock assistance for the rest of their lives. The school doesn't educcate this child, they babysit this child, at a cost of $1.6M per year, for this ONE child , due to their disabilities. That's fully 1/10th of this school's budget. What the frick man?
For say $250K a year the school district could hire an in home caregiver and take care of all other costs associated with this child leaving $1.4M to help educate the children who are in the school, if the law allowed it, but they can't because SCOTUS has ruled that any child must be allowed into the school system and that the school MUST pay for anything necessary to "educate" that child, regardless of cost.

Every student should receive services at least equal to the level of federal funding given to the school for that student.

Gifted and talented programs are being cut left and right meanwhile we spend inordinate amounts of money on kids that will never be productive in society. It sucks to say, but it is true.

So how do we pick and choose which students are too disabled to educate? Some students with disabilities can actually go on to live a productive life after school, even attend college. How will you tell the parent your child is too disabled to spend educational resources on?

You can donate to schools that help the disabled if this is important to you. Walk that walk, baw. Don't just talk that talk.

It's making economic decisions based of emotion. Yes , of course I feel sorry for this child. And I have no problem with the money coming out of the school budget to make sure this child has the best care that is the most help to the parents as possible. But everyone should agree that spending 10% of the school's budget on one child isn't fair to other 1,569 students in that school district.
Now this only applies to a few really extreme cases, obviously. Most special needs kids are not this bad off, and just need some extra attention to help them get the most out of school, and that's another matter entirely.

Honestly? It depends on the level of disability.
Also, have you ever had the joy of having a kid spend a year in a classroom with a severely autistic,angry child with poor impulse control? My daughter had this experience in the second grade. The child was violent towards other children,the teacher as well as his "personal" assistant (a teacher who worked only with him all day,everyday). It was the worst year of my daughters life. She went to school scared and they rarely completed assignments in class. Their class fell behind others and they eventually had to break her class up into sections so they could sit in with other classes to try to catch up. It was awfully unfair to all involved. This was one class,at one school. Imagine how often this goes on nationwide.
