Because the US Government appears to have JUST realized it.

After six weeks of failure & delay, on March 16th, the FDA finally provided regulatory exemptions to commercial labs & manufacturers.
In the following ten days, we increased coronavirus testing by 1,000%!!!

Ya but some guy will somehow manage to kill himself with a test kit and that will undermine the entire thesis.
Or so some people will say.

my wife works for a company directly involved with lab testing. you can't even begin to scratch the surface of how pathetic the FDA/CDC have been with all of this all due to bureaucratic bullshite and red tape
they basically set vague guidelines and then don't have any response plan/ability to respond back when companies have questions about the guidelines. so companies just moved forward without them, only for the FDA to jump in at the end and say "no you can't do this this is what we actually meant"
this has been going round and round for weeks. private industry is able to move so much quicker on sourcing tests, distributing tests, running results, providing results but they are slowed down every step of the way due to nonsense

FDA serves an important role and has things in place such as EUA’s (emergency use authorization) which Is used in emergencies to temporarily allow tests and treatments that haven’t gone through full FDA approval. Anything that goes through full approval you know is going to work as intended because they beat it to death in testing.
They are a pain in my arse but I understand the reason they are a pain in the arse.

Shut your whore mouth.
Anybody who wants less regulation just wants old people and children dead so they can make more money.
You should be ashamed.
