I see it the other way. They know there was no collusion. Blaming Trump directly failed.

So they sue Russia and Wiki leaks so they still have someone else to blame.

Of course they still throw Trump in there just because Trump and muh Russians.

This is sour grapes.

Also, if the case was rock solid, why wait from November 2016 until April 2018 to file suit? The timing of this makes it look more like a stunt than anything else.

Just playing devils advocate: it's possible the Dems got wind that Muellers report will be bad for the Trump campaign associates, but not Trump himself, thus the lawsuit. Maybe they think they will have a strong case?

With Meuller's raid on Trump's Attorney, it's become obvious that Meuller has given up on Russian Collusion and is looking for dirt to back a Dem Impeachment move. Trump is in the process of taking the gloves off. Enter Rudy.

Rudy is going to stick His finger in Meuller's face and spell it out. The EVIDENCE is there to back a successful prosecution of a Conspiracy/Rackateering Charge to both manipulate the Election, and afterward, to employ the "insurance policy" strategy to take the elected POTUS out. That evidence is going to come out, and anybody on the down side of it will be in serious criminal jeopardy. Meuller included; as He serves a pivotal role. Hardball.

But I am not sure they could prosecute him for that while he is president.

This is settled law, a sitting US President can NOT be charged with a crime. One of two things would have to happen for this to change.

Either

A) the Justice Department would have to rewrite their own procedural rules that have been in place since Watergate

or

B) Congress would have to pass a law explaining when a President could be charged with a crime.

A sitting president cannot be indicted. So the only option is impeachment. And he's not going to get impeached for something like that, that happened before he became prez.

I think that is right.

The only way it gets to him in his term or terms is if one of the Trump family members gets embroiled in it.

But remember, they can prosecute him for pre-term crimes once he is no longer president.

I don't remember Brother Bill lying to the FBI. He lied under oath in a state court deposition, right

Correct. I would imagine, legally, that perjury would be worse than obstruction. I would defer to the lawyers we have here though.

Why would they sue Trump then?

I mean technically yes, but that's not going to happen.

I think lying to the FBI is more or less a kill shot. They have taken a lot of politicians down on that. I would say that it is more serious than perjury in a deposition in state court.

Force information to come out pre-mid terms.

You're probably right... I imagine the type of lie matters. Like if he banged a prostitute in 1996 in Saipan. Who cares?

I would hope the FBI is above "gotcha" questions though.

I'd say that is an incisive point. That would be a good reason to do it for the Democrats.

Ask Jim Brown about that.

Just my opinion but they know Mueller has nothing on Trump, and they are trying to make this whole collusion with Russia bullshite drag out until the midterms.

What? That's called good police work. You entangle lower level people up in lies so you can leverage them to turn on bigger fish.

This assumes, of course, that your investigation isn't based on lies to begin with.

I don't think it matters what starts the investigation. You lie to the FBI, you are likely going to jail.

Well, you are close.

What you really mean is that since they know they got jack shite, they want to stretch the story out to the mid-terms and selectively leak.

I suppose, if the lies are about crimes. I was thinking of thr whole "did you bang that intern" type of question. Even so... If Trump was the small fish in this equation I'd hate to find out who the big fish is.
