One of the weirdest things in this country regarding things like this is the demonization of weed and the acceptance of alcohol, IMO. I'm not here to demonize alcohol, I just think it's fricking weird everyone is cool with it when it's scientifically proven to be more harmful than weed and many other illegal substances.

Alcohol is an insidious drug that kills over a hundred thousand a year, destroys families and lives. You can straight up OD on it too. You can go but pure grain alcohol at the store. It should be schedule 1 in a world where marijuana is legal. It makes zero sense.

Ok. I still don't believe it has any place in a facility where people are trying to beat addiction.

What about the other drugs that are used? They are more addictive than MJ. As 225 mentioned Suboxone is very hard to ween off of but it is still safer than meth obviously and is widely prescribed to treat addicts. It also turns some people into zombies as I said and they have a hard time completing simple tasks.

IMO MJ is a better treatment than suboxone but I am no Dr or addict.

On a scale of 1 to 10, this rates as a 1.5 on the "i care" meter.

Another small, insignificant issue that doesn't move the needle. The OP seems to focus on those type issues.

I don't think they realize those other drugs are allowed in sober living houses.

I think alcohol can be beneficial in small amounts. It’s a slippery slope just like marijuana addiction but I definitely think it can be used to good effect without abusing it and it becoming a health detriment to yourself and others.

That may be true, but it's better than another useless poll or crowd size thread.

Also, what's with the inability of people on this board to be critical of the candidate that they support?

When people see sober living they assume it is a quit all drugs cold turkey. As you know, it is a process with many steps and some of those steps are the use of prescriptions.

Huge unforced error by a purported "presidential candidate."

And it's a process that usually happens over a couple of years. Many people go to these sober living facilities on the drugs (usually from rehab) and then when they leave, they're still on them. That's when the true battle, and potential trouble, really begin.

I’m gonna sound like a goober boomer but through the pop-culture. It’s ubiquitous in hip-hop that seemingly 85%+ of young people listen to.

I think it should be but there needs to be clear information on what kind of damage it can cause.

I pretty much have agreed with your takes throughout the thread.

As a user, I obviously think it should be completely legal for adults. But pop culture definitely glorifies it too much and I have seen many friends throughout my life waste their time and energy with it while repeating the same lines over and over again about how it's 100% safe and 0% addictive.

We would all be better off if there were more messaging around responsible use and drawbacks, but I believe no one will honestly have that conversation right now because mentioning dangers could potentially harm the legalization effort. Responsible use messaging needs to come from experienced responsible users and those people are preoccupied with advocacy.

For the record, I'd say alcohol is overly glorified, too, and I'd much prefer people use cannabis products over alcohol products.

The guy that runs the facility here calls me sometimes and says "Mike won't be working tomorrow because he failed a urine test and has to go back to detox for 14 days". It happens all of the time.

Very interesting take. I’d like to hear more about it if you’re willing.

I’ve been having Biblical debates lately about whether drinking alcohol is inherently sinful in nature and it’s led to some arguments like this.

Because you're equating marijuana addiction to alcohol addiction. The 2 couldn't be further from each other in regards to addiction.

Getting addicted to weed and not having it won't kill you. It may make you have trouble sleeping for a night or 2.

Getting addicted to alcohol and not having it is extremely dangerous and has killed many, many people. It's also a reason why they put alcoholics on meds when they go to rehab.

Fwiw, these drugs aren't necessary for opiate addiction, meth addiction, etc. You won't die detoxing off of those, but you'll feel like you're dying. They're a necessity when detoxing someone off alcohol, or it can severely harm them, or as I stated, kill them.

I am pro Trump but would 100% vote for Ron if he wasn't running against Don and will vote for him if he is the nominee.

Correct. Their bodies go into shock.
