Der Spiegel has been reticent to take sides in the Russia/Ukraine military engagement.
The linked article is the result of their sending reporters to Bucha to (duh) report on what is there now and what can be learned from it.

The survivors they talked to , the hundreds of bodies with single bullet wounds to their heads, the civilians killed by sniper fire (exit wounds are massive), the woman who came back to find her three bodies in her front yard: her husband, her brother and a stranger. Neighbors told her the stranger was shot because he came out on the street to get a better cell phone signal. The Russians distrusted anyone with a cell phone.

And then there's the Russian commewnt:

quote:

Russia has rejected all responsibility for the death of Bucha citizens. "The whole situation in Bucha is a well-staged insinuation, nothing else," Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed this week.

Irina, wearing a black jacket, with a neighbor and the body is Irina's husband, a civilian in their front yard.

Tragic, but didn't Zelensky make any male 16-60 a combatant?

It’s war. I hate to say it but unless you surrender it’s not going to be a good day. There isn’t neutral party in the country.

"The whole situation in Bucha is a well-staged insinuation, nothing else," Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed this week.

With the consistent false statements by Western media, I'm inclined to believe Putin. I don't know if I've heard a true narrative from the West that was confirmed, Ghosts of Kiev, Snake Island, Russian's torturing POWs, Train Station missile, etc.

What I've seen confirmed to the contrary is Azov Battalion torturing Donbass residents and Russian POWs, Ukranian designations on train station missile/bombs.

The world snickered at videos where a Ukrainian woman berated Russian soldiers in the street or a guy in a car offered to give a Russian tank crew a ride back to Russia but this is the reality of war. Civilians die.

I do not want to sound coldhearted in this because human life matters. But decisions by leaders on all sides are killing people needlessly. I refuse to say one side is evil, and the other good. Because I really do not see it. I just wish innocent people would not pay the price for moronic leadership.

You know, while this is true, you are missing the whole fricking point.

This is not supposed to be total war. There hasn't been total war in a long time.

But shooting random civilians or rapping and killing random women they come across is another level.

Russia wants to say they are fighting a war to free people. If they were trying to limit collateral damage, that lie could be broadcast.

When they drive down the street shooting random people in their yard or gathering up all men and shooting them, it's a different story.

Jesus, I'm as fricking right wing as they get but Putin is a fricking dick. And the Russian military is a second rate organization filled with bullies at best and more likely murderers and rapists. So frick them as well.

Not a left vs. right issue for me. Both sides have committed atrocities and if you cannot see that than you are biased. Both sides have plenty of evil. I am not rooting for Putin, I just do not want to be involved in this proxy war.

My position.

We have no national interest in this regional conflict.

But much like labeling someone a homophobe, racist, you got to define it clearly. Just because I do not lap up the mainstream anger does not make me a Russian supporter. I do not trust our government, I do not trust Russia, I do not trust Ukraine. So many bad actors at play here.

OK, let me break it down for you barney style...

You have bad and you have really bad. When those are your two choices you choose the bad.

Rarely when you vote do you actually vote for someone you like. You vote for someone less bad than the other.

Romney or Obama? There is no good guy. But there is a less bad one.

That is what the choices are here. It doesn't make it any less clear.

So frick, Ukraine is not some angelic place. But they are better than Putin.

Plus the enemy of my enemy is my friend type of thing.

Let me break down to you retard style. I do not buy into your worldview where I have to chose evil. frick that. A little evil, is still evil. You are free to think that, but me not does not make me wrong. I take a thing called perspective taking to heart and roll with it.

No actually I am, unlike you I can think outside the mainstream thought. Wake up , I can look at it from both sides, then step back and view it through the lens of others.
