The log scale in this chart is almost criminal. The US would have to 25x our deaths in 7 days to match Italy.
H1N1 swine flu had 120x US deaths than now & no shutdowns.
Yes even Italy is flattening w zero prep & total initial disregard.
In 21 days.

Most of this board is under the impression we are not seeing exponential growth for total cases or total deaths.
Consider for total cases:
March 2nd: 100 Cases
March 11th: 1,000 Cases
March 20th: 10,000 Cases (projected, but right on track)
The worldometer site makes this pretty easy to see.

I’m gonna be honest here.
Nothing freaked me out in high school math like logarithms and non base 10 number systems.
I’ve since figured out logs are just a fancy way of saying exponent but I’m still terrified of base 8.

How is a log scale criminal. Plot that data on a linear scale and you would not be able to tell anything, other comparing the total numbers. On a log scale it is much easier to compare the exponential growth. And it is pretty clear that the US is doing much better than anyone other than S Korea on that graph so far.

A novel contagion always spreads/grows exponentially. Very few, if anyone, on this board does not think that people are getting infected at an exponential rate.
The disagreement is really just what measures are appropriate vs inappropriate in terms of economic consequences. And what is motivating a lot of the msm coverage. But not growth/spread of the virus.

It helps calm everyone down if everyone sees the same numbers though. I wish more of the discussion was on the objective rather than subjective.

The numbers are virtually meaningless at this point. We have tested less than 60,000 people. In a country of 330mm. Testing is increasing exponentially, so cases are of course doing the same At the moment. It’s pointless to look at or discuss.

This chart sucks really badly. It continually compresses the data. Where is the original data underlying this? Where is the original source?

That all may be true, but it hasnt been reflected in the data, at least not yet.
One other note is that the same excerise can be done for deaths, but interesting deaths are increasing 10x every 14 days at the moment, slower than total cases. That's a much more concrete number.

We just didn't test for anything and everyone just experienced "bad" flus or respiratory illnesses. So it is just coincidence the trend line for an exponential curve falls on average within 4% of the actual data for every day for almost 3 weeks?
