He was under indictment before he even got elected as DA and Biden's DOJ got a conviction on his law partner's trial, so there was at least some smoke to all this.

Nicole Burdett was the go-between with the tax preparer. I guess the jury thought that she handled it all and that she knew what she was doing whereas Jason W was just an innocent victim. Likely not the case at all, but it basically sounded like the weak case by the AUSA played out that way at trial.

I imagine Burdett was offered a deal to testify against him as he was the big fish. She stayed loyal and eventually got left holding the bag.
