One is that people who have the virus but are asymptomatic don't have the viral load to transmit the disease.

That’s probably a slight overstatement. They are very likely less infectious.

quote:

there have been numerous studies on closed environments such as nursing homes, cruise ships, aircraft carriers, etc, that have shown that the virus peaks at about 20-25%

I’ve seen some instances of this. But I’ve seen other instances where the percent infected, especially in congregate living environment, is much higher than this. There was a prison in Ohio with like an 80% infection rate. A nursing home in St. Charles, MO had something approaching 60% of its residents infected.

One, I've heard that someone who is asymptomatic (due to viral load) is the person you want to get it from because it means you will likely have a smaller response.

Anecdotally, I know three people who contracted CV from a single (reportedly) asymptomatic individual. Two of the three ended up on a vent and all were hospitalized. All three recovered (somewhat miraculously).

Did you skip over the title of the article?

Did you read the article? Yes, it's weak transmission ability if asymptomatic. In other words completely unlike what we keep being told about it being highly contagious even if no symptoms.

And how could it be very contagious if no symptoms? If I'm not coughing, no nasal drip, and no other sign of illness, how could it possibly be easily passed along?

(Edited for spelling)

Close physical contact. Touching your face and then shaking hands. Twenty other obvious ways.

I've explained his sources. You believe what you want. I'm willing to bet his sources are better than yours.

This will absolutely NOT pass it along. Don't you have the ability to reason? Now, if I lick my hand and shake hands, that's another story...

So those who get temps checked and have a temp but no symptoms are then tested?

Sorry — I just don’t understand what you’re saying about temp checks. But I want to.

Faciity where I consult had to be more than 80%. We had roughly 77 residents the last time I was physically in the building — we now have 49. We do have a few in the hospital still and many have died. Some were good before covid but still had preexisting conditions and done not so good.

People who Work in the White House, for example, get their temperature taken every day, before the enter the building. If they have a temperature, they don't go in.

People who are symptomatic are much more contagious than people who aren't. Asymptomatic people can pass it along, but it is not as likely.

So go fix the OP. You are going from "don't have the viral load to pass it on" to "can pass it along, but it is not as likely". Big difference and probably what caused the "BS" comment.

How big is the difference?

What's the transmission rate from symptomatic carriers? What's the transmission rate from asymptomatic carriers?

About the same as the difference in can to can't. Pretty huge!

Early estimates (read March) were that symptomatic carriers were 50% more infectious than asymptomatic carriers.
