Other than basic economics. We have cut back on supply. Any economist will tell you that this will result in higher prices.

Who do you think paid for them? There is no stock answer to that question. The answer changes for each product depending on the elasticity of the supply and demand curves for that particular product. Sometimes the consumer, in the country with the tariffs, bears most of the cost, and sometimes it is the producer who is trying to import the product.
