Could the FBI have been trying to help Trump?

By not investigating the laptop, they allowed a compromised candidate to get through to this point, damn near assuring Trump a victory. The FBI is known to be corrupt so this is not impossible. What doesn’t make it likely is they are accustomed to fricking over Trump and not helping him. However, Trump is a damn good deal maker and we don’t know what happens behind closed doors. I really doubt it, but you never know.

The FBI should be dismantled, its leadership prosecuted and a large percentage of its agents permanently barred from working in law enforcement in any capacity. They are a bigger threat to the freedom of the average American than Russia, China, North Korea and Al Qaeda combined.

Honestly don’t want the FBI to help my candidate. Just want them to pursue justice they way they promote themselves as pursuers of justice

It wouldn't have anything to do with Trump being a good deal maker or not. It would be about him being the Chief executive. He's had nearly a full term now to turn over the FBI.
That being said, no, they're likely not. I think Wray is still team deep state and I have no idea why he hasn't been fired already.

No, I suspect that there is a long tradition of the FBI providing briefings to incoming presidents of the compromat they hold. I imagine Comey's initial briefing to Trump about the Steele Dossier was along these lines, but as the "proof" was not there, it was done in such a way as to entrap Trump in obstruction. Re the Hunter laptop, a compromised Biden may not be good for the country, but exceedingly useful for the FBI.

I've seen this idea floated multiple times around here the last few days and I've begun to think this is 100% what is going on.
Biden would be controlled by our intel agencies just as much as he would be by the Chinese.

From the first director until now, the FBI has been in the business of blackmailing politicians for their own gain.
Some of the rank & file outside of DC may good agents and law enforcement officers, but the entire agency was built on blackmail, coercion, and extortion from day 1.

The FBI isn't backing a single person as much as it is covering up a way of doing business so to speak. They have done a lot of dirty shite that they are worried about becoming transparent. They are in “cover your arse” mode

Umm... the FBI still has its finger all the way up its arse, just over a week from the election. If the laptop compromised Biden, what was on it would have to come out in time to have an impact. You think the FBI is putting the info out?
