I'm not sure what caused WaPo to commit an act of actual journalism. I'm sure somehow they'll find a way to blame this on Trump.

The failure by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to quickly produce a test kit for detecting the novel coronavirus was triggered by a glaring scientific breakdown at the CDC’s central laboratory complex in Atlanta, according to scientists with knowledge of the matter and a determination by federal regulators.

The CDC facilities that assembled the kits violated sound manufacturing practices, resulting in contamination of one of the three test components used in the highly sensitive detection process, the scientists said.

The cross contamination most likely occurred because chemical mixtures were assembled into the kits within a lab space that was also handling synthetic coronavirus material. The scientists also said the proximity deviated from accepted procedures and jeopardized testing for the virus.

The Washington Post separately confirmed that Food and Drug Administration officials concluded that the CDC violated its own laboratory standards in making the kits. The substandard practices exposed the kits to contamination.

Lmao. Contamination of test reagants happens all the time, including in private company reagants. I have had plenty of contaminated test reagants come in from Fisher, New England Biolabs, Promega, Qiagen, you name it. In some kits it's a given that there's gonna be bacterial sequences in there, and you just have to account for them.

Making a brand new kit from scratch requires testing the kit which requires having synthetic coronavirus around as positive controls.

But no, it's because it's the gubmint, private companies can do no wrong! And they were spiking them on purpose! I have no idea what DNA is, but I just feel it must be true!

They were probably accidentally contaminated by a scientist that also happens to get grant money from China

So the CDC director, Robert Redfield knew this all along. I wonder if he informed the president about this before actually being forced to reveal it at his convenience?

Researchers, technicians and management responsible should be held accountable and not just fired. Their lack of following common sense and protocols likely led to the death of a significant number of people.

My god, your well-reasoned argument completely changed my opinion on everything, I was wrong all along! It turns out I don't know anything at all! Baws, I think Hillary spiked them tests, git 'em!

Ain't it just like the WaPo to report February's news in April. What a great job.

Next up they'll give us their predictions on the winner of Super Bowl LIV.
