I'm eager to see how Target responds to this incident

quote:

New Britain, CT – Police officers working with a community group on an annual school supply drive were kicked out of the Target in New Britain on Saturday by a store manager who said he didn’t support police.

Lifelong New Britain resident Timothy Conaway, a co-founder of the community outreach group the Training and Motivation Center (TMC), said his organization first partnered with the New Britain Police Department when they launched the back-to-school fundraiser program seven years ago, WTIC reported.

But this year when Conaway and New Britain police officer arrived to set up for their “Stuff a Cruiser” event at the Target store located in the 400-block of Hartford Road on Aug. 8, the store manager told them they had to leave.

“I told him I was here last year and he didn’t agree or believe me and he told us to leave,” the community activist told WTIC. “We were shocked. The officers were looking like ‘really, you really you want us to leave?’ And he said ‘yes, leave.’”

Conaway said he and the officers left at the Target manager’s request but said they were disappointed and confused by what had happened.

This was a stupid move. The only thing he will accomplish is losing his job and target will donate schools.

Should fire the manager... it’s not targets fault this manager is a prick, but if they defend him they are just as bad.

If Target doesn’t publicly denounce this behavior, they will never again see a dime of my money. Wish more people would join me.

IIRC, the regional called, apologized, and offered like $500 in donations toward the cause.

A bigger apology would be firing the store manager involved.

The fact that they didn't fire the manager over something as egregious as this shows that they either support his stance, or are so cowed by BLM that they're afraid to fire him.

Either way, once again, choose wisely about where your dollars go. And I wouldn't call giving money to such a company wise.

Is it a store manager or a general manager ? Any idiot who shows up on time for a couple months can make store manager at these places.

Playing devil's advocate here, the manager doesn't seem to have been given an opportunity to give his side. The assertion in the opening paragraph that the manager was motivated by cop-hatred is presented as fact but not supported by any of the info given, and is presumably what the author was told by the cops and the community volunteer guy.

Did the cops arrange for their presence before showing up? The statement by the cop that the manager was not sympathetic to the claim that "we did it last year" strongly suggests that the visit was unannounced. Courtesy and matters of liability are both at play.

Did the cops pull up right by the doors and setup a big table? A person could reasonably feel put-upon by such an unannounced disruption like that.

If the manager really let all parties know that he did it for the stated reason of cop-hatred, all indignation is righteously justified. . . but there are a lot of holes in that article.

I'm fond of the expression that "there is more demand than supply" of racism. Is there really a need for slanted reports on anti-police action? There's too much legit stuff going on to get folks worked up over a potentially benign interaction. It's possible to be a dick with out being a cop-hater, and it's possible for people of good intent to presume it entitles them to special treatment.

If the assertions of the article are true in spirit and fact, then the blogger/reporter had a responsibility to give the supporting evidence, including an opportunity to hear from the opposing party.

You just can't tell, we could be getting played by some local pricks who obtrusively barged into a place of business, and now want to play the "nice store you got there, hate to see a another bunch of negative headlines come your way in these difficult times" game
