... maybe , just maybe Gaetz was able to thwart a possible move put into play to circumvent the normal path to the Oval office by none other than HRC

there were seeds of discord being planted on Sunday just before the drama

Leading Democrats need to go to the White House to ask Biden and Harris to step aside

Opinion by Douglas MacKinnon, opinion contributor •  4d

quote:

Unfortunately, and quite dangerously, too many minds in our nation — be they in the political, military, corporate or academic class — are now consumed with partisan or ideological rubbish, to the outright exclusion of irrefutable facts and life-extinguishing danger.

As this insanity plays out and rational voices from both sides of the political divide try to warn of the spreading fire that could consume us all, the only response from some of these troubled minds is “Trump is evil,” “Biden is evil,” “Putin is evil,” “Zelensky is evil,” “Netanyahu is evil” or “Abbas is evil.”

Such a pronouncement might make them a hero in their own minds, but it does nothing to solve the problem.

We need Biden — and Harris — to rise above that nonsense while turning the eyes of our nation toward the true threats that could destroy us. We need a president who is actually “presidential.”

... now why all of a sudden are "journalists " straying from their set narratives like this??

... maybe the plan was to keep McCarthy by all means so he could prop the door open

But Gaetz took the doorstop out and slammed the door shut

... do you think this could be the case?

If so the goal was achieved and it is a win

A definite WIN

I for one was surprised Gaetz had the balls to stand up to Trump and take out his guy. I mean Trump took credit for getting McCarthy elected and he supported him up until the day he was removed.

IMO, an epic fail would have been if Emmer was elected speaker. Whether the Johnson selection was an unplanned side effect of Gaetz's coup against McCarthy or not, it is a net gain for the good guys.

I think some self reflection might be needed. If we're to win back the country, the only way forward is to more disciplined than ever, more thoughtful than ever and more open to listening to people who have put thought into their opinions rather than knee jerk reactions. We don't always have to agree but we shouldn't dismiss each other simply because it's easier to be in the majority. There's a hive mind here on the board that needs to be broken.

I disagree. I think it’s a net epic fail for him. Sure, he set out to get rid of McCarthy and achieved that “goal,” but what’s the net gain for Republicans versus net loss? The Speaker’s role remains the same, not to represent one “faction” or the other in the House Republican majority, but instead to try to find middle ground between the “factions” enough to be able to effectively use their majority in the House.

The factions and division has not gone anywhere, and if anything is worse. Thus, and this is only my opinion of course, but for Republicans it’s a net loss. And I say that with the thought in mind that the most important thing for Republicans right now is to put themselves in the best possible position to win 2024 elections. I believe the opposite has happened.

Not only did leadership lose its power, it was exposed. There was a report that even Scalise had seen the light. The entire conference knows where the power is and they seem WAY more aligned than they were 3 weeks ago.

Richleau was still claiming Mike Johnson last month.

The younger faces you see over and over, guys like Mike Johnson, are the face of the party now. That trend will continue. No need to go back to failed policy trumpeted by the party of old.

So just checking to see how this whole winning thing jives with ya. The leader of the party is America First, the speaker of the house is America First
