Colorado governor will sign bill aimed at bypassing Electoral College

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) will sign a measure to award his state's electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, moving a countrywide coalition one step closer to circumventing the Electoral College.
In an interview Sunday, Polis called the Electoral College an "undemocratic relic" of the nation's past, one he wants to see relegated to the dustbin of history.
"I've long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes," Polis told The Hill. "It's a way to move towards direct election of the president."
Colorado will become the 12th state to join the national popular vote interstate compact. Those 12 states and the District of Columbia, which has also passed a popular-vote bill, account for 181 electoral votes, just under 90 shy of the 270 votes a presidential candidate needs to win the White House.
The compact will not go into effect until the coalition includes states that add up to 270 electoral votes or more. Once it does go into effect, states that are part of the coalition would award their electoral votes en masse to the candidate who wins the national popular vote.
Supporters of the compact say relying on the popular vote would expand the presidential map, incentivizing candidates to travel to states beyond the traditional battlegrounds of Florida and Ohio.
"Under a national popular vote, the 38 nonbattleground states long ignored by presidential campaigns will be powerful again, because no candidate can win 270 electoral votes and the White House without also winning the popular vote across all 50 states and the District of Columbia," said John Koza, who chairs National Popular Vote, the group that supports the interstate compact.

Unconstitutional and will be struck down in court. States can’t set conditions in federal elections.
Congrats to Colorado for wasting money on this virtue signaling law.

I don't give a flying frick if the candidates didn't visit my state... as long as they're the best candidate and won't increase my taxes that's all that matters to me.

This is so disenfranchising... Let's say the state winner and the national popular vote winner don't match.
Courts should strike this down

Any state government that willingly cedes its electorate's designation of electoral votes to the popular vote of other states should be immediately removed.

So he’s actively trying to give his citizens no voice. Interesting

Would have been better off just awarding electoral votes per congressional district.

Signing in vain. Not his call.

How can this even be legal?

As much as I would like for you to be right, states are allowed to determine how electors are selected.
The only argument is that a state's electors can only be determined by the votes of that state.

These clowns seem to forget the entire purpose of the Electoral College.
Small states would never have joined the union if high population states controlled the government. Simple fact.
Liberals really do seem to be heading towards a civil war they will lose badly.
And yes, trying to focus all power in a few highly populated states would eventually lead to dissolution of the United States and most likely could lead to another civil war.

If the state winner and the popular vote national winner differ, then residents of the state wasted a whole bunch of time and energy, and i'm sure it runs afoul of "one man, one vote" too.

THIS, or rather they never learned it perhaps. It's outrageous that grown men and women honestly don't get this, the thing de Toqueville called "the tyranny of the majority", why Greece was in a constant state of war amongst three population centers, why Plato coined the frickin' term "Republic". I mean come on; we got this in 5th frickin' grade right? Whenever someone comes out for this "one man, one vote" "direct democracy" bunk one wonders if we're going to have to learn these ancient lessons again...the hard way?! Just wow. The unmitigated ignorance in must take....

I am betting this is the last state to sign on.
There is no way they get the other 90 votes.

We have lost this country unless there is a civil war. Think what you want but those are the facts.
