College Board drops student 'adversity score'
Whew, thank goodness for the pushback! The 'adversity score' was the CB's latest attempt to lower the common denominator and give additional admission advantages to those with high 'adversity scores' instead of to those with real, achieved testing scores and academic records.

LINK

The College Board initially conceived of the idea of providing schools with a student's background information at the request of colleges and universities in an attempt to view a student's objective SAT results in the context of the conditions under which the student lives and learns, Coleman said. The thinking, he said, was that if a student overcame economic or other challenges to earn a certain SAT score, that information should be known by decision-makers.

How would these knuckleheads even begin to assess this type of information?

Seems tailor-made for abuse and other shenanigans.

I hate this everybody gets a trophy mindset when it comes to college. College is not meant for everyone. That's why people under 35 nowadays have an easier time with a technical degree such as plumbing instead of something like petroleum engineer. I know a few school teachers with engineering degrees.

its no longer about educating. It’s about more indoctrination time while stacking the generation with debt

This definitely affected the end result of where my son went to school. It was upsetting while it was happening. A National Merit student who's scores and grades were nearly perfect.
We are all extremely happy where he ended up, but the unfairness of these shenanigans by the left are obvious to all but the most biased among us who claim to be "just trying to level the playing field." Absolutely grade A #1 horse shite at its finest.

Anyone in support of this should be forced to, for at least a few years, to only use services or goods produced by individuals who benefited from that.

You want a doctor? Gotta pick someone who got through via a high diversity score.

Got a busted pipe? A/C broke? Car issues? Same.

And so the College Board is launching a tool called Landscape, which will provide admissions counselors with information about a student's background, like average neighborhood income and crime rates, but Coleman said the data points will not be given a score.

"We'll leave the interpretation to the admission's officer," Coleman said. "In other words, we're leaving a lot more room for judgment."

Looks like they’re still doing it but not at the expense of the test scores. They’re letting admissions at the college determine what I assume is their “wokeness” and the like

Certain institutions were doing that anyway but at least getting rid of the score will keep it from being forced on all the institutions.

That's not what the adversity score is about. It's not self esteem. It's a circumvention of a Supreme Court ruling on aff action based on race. Whites and Asians have sued for not getting in although scoring much higher than blacks.
The courts ruled in their favor banning race based admissions. However, they allow colleges to use a variety of criteria. So, the colleges started 'striving' or 'adversity' bonus points to get around the court ruling.

So, they let Jerome in although he's 100 points under the cut off.
The court: 'You can't let him in because he's black.'
College: 'We're not, we gave him 150 points for overcoming obstacles.'
Court: 'What obstacles?'
College: 'Being black.'
Court: 'Well, that's OK. I guess.'

Overcome what?

It is such BS to assume that because someone is white that they’re not poor, and that their test scores are NOT the result of their own hard work and their parent’s.

Minorities’ parents, as a whole, don’t invest in their children’s schooling. Because they don’t care, the parents don’t care. And you have a vicious cycle.

I substituted middle school in NOLA while in business school. Overall it was enjoyable, but I was appalled at the black parents who would come to me complaining that their kids weren’t “soaking up the material” as if just being in the school somehow meant you were getting smarter.

Meanwhile these kids were the worst behaved, and were only there waiting for 3pm to hit so they could leave. I could tell the parents themselves had no concept of what studying was, or how to really learn anything.

It’s sad that this generation is so convinced this is because of whitey
