Dude, take a step back from your keyboard for a second, get out of your own head, and reconsider my argument please.
I’m not attacking you, I’m not diminishing your argument, and I’m not trying to score gotcha points in blind support of a certain political party. I’m simply telling you that there’s more to this than you are admitting and trying to help you broaden your perspective on this particular point. And I believe it’s an important one.
1) This and blexit don’t have close to the same degree of support and you know that. Don’t be willfully obtuse when trying to silence your critics; it’s obvious and it weakens your position.
2) I never said you are against all rhetorical arguments. But I claim you are dismissing this particular rhetorical argument because you literally just summarily dismissed it without a single second of consideration for what it means to the people who support it.
3) How often are you in DC? Not a rhetorical question, I’m really curious how familir you are with the city. I’m there at least a few times a year, have some fraternity brothers living there who I keep in touch with, and have family living in the DC suburbs. So I’m pretty familiar with the prevailing mindset. And yes, it is legitamitely difficult to dispute democratic policies and ideas in that city. A significant subset of DC citizens get legitimately angry if you express a political position that differs from their own. Maybe ‘courage’ wasn’t the perfect word to use, but it sure as shite isn't easy to ‘walk away’ in that city either. You will in all likelihood lose friendships over it.
4) Exactly. There are always people leaving both parties. So why do you dismiss the ones who leave the left as being simply a russian ploy. I don’t know how you can simultaneously acknowledge that some former dems are walking away from the party and also propogate the position that the entirety of the walk away movement is russian driven. Even if russians started that particular hashtag, it’s a mindset that a significantly non-zero portion of our population has latched onto (certainly many more than the hundreds you are willing to admit). When you dismiss those individuals as simply being victims of a russian ploy, you virtually ensure that they never come back by diminishing their perception of the world. These former dems aren’t leaving the party because they were tricked by russians. They are doing it because they see something wrong. Why you are so intent on dismissing that reality is beyond me, and it’s just not helpful.
5) I’ll keep giving advice whenever I think it has the potential to make our country stronger. As a citizen of this country, you have the right to listen to that advice or to ignore it. That’s what’s great about living in a free society. Just know that the advice is sincere and given in attempt to find some small degree of unity in our current tumultuous political enviornment. If you disagre that’s fine, but I’m not going to stop giving it if I think it can help.
Anyway, no hard feelings on this end, I’d simply encourage you to expand your thinking on this and to stop dismissing the thousands of folks who’ve bought into it.
