I think lack of outrage is more related to there not being a Republican in charge. With Katrina, they ignored the Democrat mayor and the Democrat governor so they could blame the Republican president.
With this one, the mayor of Asheville is a Democrat, the governor of NC is a Democrat, and the president is a Democrat. Since they don't have a Republican to blame it on, they suppress the outrage.
Very similar to the George Floyd outrage. You had a Democrat city with a Democrat state, that has not voted for a Democrat president in my lifetime and his death was apparently all due to Republican policies.

I realize this is extremely cynical, but... voter turnout in western North Carolina is going to be extremely depressed - will this shift the numbers enough to put NC in play?

The lack of response sure won't make it a swing state i can assure you that.

Except that private citizens are getting it done. So, frick that theory.

The media keeps saying NC is a swing state. Even if you live in an area that wasn't hit, I would think you'd be upset at Biden and Kamala for not doing more to help your state.
Lived in Gonzales/Dutchtown for Katrina and live in NC now. I’m consistently amazed at how inept our government is, we now need travel papers, just to make deliveries to hard hit areas. The response was delayed, lazy and thoughtless. We care more about other countries than our own.
We will report about a missiles that killed 3 people, 5000x. Meanwhile, we have bodies in treetops and buried in mud and there is no sense of urgency, unless you live in the affected communities (same as Katrina and the Baton Rouge floods - Facebook and TikTok are better news sources).

I believe that's called realpolitik

I’m ultra right wing. My point is that we point out thousands of “if roles were reversed” examples over the years and nothing ever gets better. We know it’s true, the left knows it’s true, and no one does a damn thing about it.
It’s why I said action is necessary, not words. Looks at the thread I made, which I think fell to the second page. What we SHOULD be doing is going to Russia and requesting aid to humiliate the US federal government.
The “people I support” huh? Get the frick out of here you idiot.
And I’m sure you and all the other downvoters misinterpreted my intent, but I don’t care. You need to change your ways, because all we do is lose.

Eh, in all honesty... I don't think it is a matter of them not wanting to help, I think it is a matter of these folks simply cannot function unless it is scripted for them on a piece of paper... They are inept..
This probably most of the problem, but they aren’t going to be motivated either.

In my experience, people like these folks tend to wither in the corner when the SHTF... They become incapable of thought or movement...

These folks are delusional and want to blame Kamala so their orange cult leader can get back to tossing rolls of paper towels.
They want to claim the red/blue state argument, but they fail to acknowledge that this happened IN THE MOUNTAINS. You can't just hop of a jon boat and cruise around town. These are tiny communities in very wooded areas.
The majority of the PT posters are so far beyond reasoning with.

Same treatment the residents of East Palestine, Ohio got.
