Agreed, it's either a misstep to do it like this, or they know this is as far as it's likely to go so they're just going for flooding the zone for as long as they can.
If they're serious about the referrals, then the slow drip is fine, but previewing the slow drip in sensationalized fashion is not IMO. It just leads to speculation that may not be matched by the actual release.

Their last gasp now is the Epstein files, where they hope to demoralize the Trump base just enough to scrabble a few House seats in 2026.
I already know there is nothing in the Epstein files, so do they. They would have used it rather than manufacture dirt on Trump. But the drip drip drip is all that they seek, just to hold on a little longer and to fool themselves that they didn’t lose everything in their quest to bring down Trump.
They won’t be able to hide from it for long. The truth has a funny way of showing up late to the party but then overstaying its welcome.

If they were serious about prosecutions, these documents shouldn't be declassified until the indictments are unsealed and arrests made.
They're basically giving a playbook to the potential Defendants on how to set up a defense before they even question them pursuant to this referral.
