Pick a side, bro. The stakes are too high here for pussy-footing around. You're either an ignorant follower of ancient lies or you're an arrogant heathen spitting in the face of his creator. Get with it.

After painstakingly reading this entire thread, all I have to add is:

These primeval people aren't parallel to the biblical Adam and Eve. They weren't the first modern humans on the planet, but instead just the two out of thousands of people alive at the time with unbroken male or female lineages that continue on today.

The rest of the human genome contains tiny snippets of DNA from many other ancestors — they just don't show up in mitochondrial or Y-chromosome DNA, Hammer said. (For instance, if an ancient woman had only sons, then her mitochondrial DNA would disappear, even though the son would pass on a quarter of her DNA via the rest of his genome.)

Like previouslt stated several times, OP clearly hasn't read the article/ has a limited understanding of science and critical thinking

Many of the people alive at the time of this common ancestor also have ancestors alive today. You have two grandfathers, don't you? And 4 great-grandfathers? And 8 great-great-grandfathers? Well, someone else also has 8 great-great-grandfathers, and the two of you might have all of them in common (your sibling), or you might have 4 of them in common (a cousin), or you might have 1 in common (a distant cousin), or you might have none in common. If you look back far enough, we all have one common male ancestor, and this study has estimated how long ago he lived. That's it. You and I might have 1,000 common ancestors that lived at the same time, but you and a guy in China might only have 1.

Good explanation, but somethig tells me Karla still won't be able to wrap her head around it

How so, Roger? The study found that all of mankind can be traced back to one man and one woman. If several people were "created" simultaneously, how can that be?

Instead of being a smartass, why not clear it up for us, genius?

Once again genius. Actually read the article.

That is not what it says...at all. As 6 pages of this thread has point out to you...over and over.

Someone tell Karla that mitochondrial Eve and the "common ancestor" male lived at completely separate times and he/she/it might explode.

There doesn't and there isn't. Unless you're a bible thumping evangelical fundamentalist or a brain dead atheist; which makes up a significant portion of the USA unfortunately.

frick, it says it in the first few paragraphs of the article YOU linked.

Despite their overlap in time, ancient "Adam" and ancient "Eve" probably didn't even live near each other, let alone mate. [The 10 Biggest Mysteries of the First Humans]

"Those two people didn't know each other," said Melissa Wilson Sayres, a geneticist at the University of California, Berkeley, who was not involved in the study.

The real question is, when are we going to get our mutant powers like the x-men?

two out of thousands

if an ancient woman had only sons, then her mitochondrial DNA would disappear,

For thousands of instances...ok

The rest of the human genome contains tiny snippets of DNA from many other ancestors .. and what is the rest of the DNA?

I've known this since vacation Bible school in 1971.

There was a cop show about that guy, as well as something about an apple and a rib.

We came from another planet.

But seriously... where or how we originated doesn't really matter to me as much as where we're headed.

...though an interesting article.

It's a man made controversy like "War on Women." Both coexist peacefully in my head. I think our real purpose for being here, after we do all our living and dying stuff, is to figure out how God did it.

So, no one is surprised that all people of all races can be traced back to one man?

are you surprised that you and your cousins have common ancestors? Can you see that as you add more and more distant cousins to the group for comparison, the number of common ancestors gets less and less? Can you imagine that at some point that number gets down to 1, and the comparison group includes all humans?

This doesn't seem like such a stretch to me.
