A pentagon report issued last week stated that our military intelligence leads it to believe that China was planning to win a fight for Taiwan by 2027 which would be a significant historical marker.

There was a briefing in DC a few months back that was promptly leaked to the MSM. In short, 2027 is the likely year and PACOM's assessment of how long we could fight that fight with the systems necessary to do it wasn't positive. We'd be out of the things that go boom in a matter of months.

They can try and intimidate all they want. Call me arrogant, but there isn’t another major fighting force close to us.

0-2 against Vietnam and Afghanistan.

1-1 vs Iraq

I’ve been hearing that our Pentagon believes that there will be a need to address China’s threats to Taiwan within the next 5 years

This has been the national defense stance and planning posture for over a decade.

I’m confident the F-35 and F-22 can easily defeat the J-20 or J-35 in BVR and ACM.

Their 6th gen J-36 and J-50 would also likely not be able to match.

Problem is, the US can only bring to bear a fraction of its military power into the region and bring it in time. Most US bases in the region are well within Chinese ballistic missile range and will severely damaged in the opening hours. Most war games estimate hundreds of US aircraft will be lost on runways during this time period.

China has also spent years developing carrier killing ballistic missiles and all reports indicate the pentagon is taking them seriously by planning to keep carrier strike groups much farther away from the action than they would otherwise.

China has a significant advantage seeing as their air force and navy will be operating close to shore, enjoying protection from many layers of air defense. The US will largely be operating from carriers and damaged airbases in the region, drastically cutting sortie rates versus China.

Even if everything you wrote is accurate, what difference does it make? They are not going to cut off their nose to spite their face.

We probably have SEALS deployed all over the world so it might not mean anything whatsoever, but I know for 100% fact we have a full team of SEALS stationed in Taiwan
Actually it's not a full SEAL team but 3 platoons at most given times and while they are a force multiplier they cannot stave off an invasion from a super power.

Because we haven't had the will or stomach to actually win since 1945

What I'd do if I was Taiwan is to take out the Three Gorges Dam and watch the fallout.

Now if one of those SEALS was a clone of Chuck Norris, then China would be deterred.

It will probably go down after midterms at the earliest, like in 2027 with a Dem seated Congress, or in 2028 if a Republican doesn’t win…that’s my guess

2027 is supposed to be the year they make their move which is the centenary of the forming of the People’s Liberation Army if that matters.
