Let's see...

- China unilaterally lowers tariffs.
- Sends a list of things they NEED from the USA.

If Scott Bessent had no qualms about destroying the pound sterling, what do you think he'd do to china?

The biggest value item they purchase from us is soybeans/corn/wheat. And in the past decade they have been moving more to Brazil and Argentina for that.

They buy a decent amount of airplanes, and some semi conductors.

As a whole they don't buy much from us that they can't get somewhere else. It's really not about balancing the trade. That would be impossible.

Hey India, no tariffs for you if you don't put tariffs on these items.

I'm sure China never expected the US to use that list in that way. It was definitely not some kind of set up.

So that means Brazil and Argentina (less so) would just clear some more rain forest to supply them?

or we could just supply the countries that Brazil and Argentina cut off

I remember reading that Russia supplies the wheat to China that the West used to supply.
