THE MOST CLEAR WAY OF THINKING ABOUT THIS

the children of U.S. citizen gov't employees and service members born abroad will, under this policy, be treated just like the children of non-gov't, non-service member U.S. citizens born abroad.

It was basically a policy change to make the standards uniform

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING

I agree. I know everybody who has disagreed with my interpretation doesn't want to believe that this is what the new policy says, but I think it's pretty clear it is significantly changing the standard here.

You are interpreting it wrong, big time

Which is bullshite

Both my kids were born abroad when I was stationed in Europe

Adding an extra layer of bullshite and money for any kids born to military members stationed overseas to become citizens is absurd

Truth, but if you dont think the military will fix this or screen, or have programs put in place, you're being naive. Not saying it isn't a hassle, but the military thing will get taken care of.

The OP is heavily implying something completely false.

99.999% of children born abroad will still be considered us citizens under this policy change.

If you are born to 2 US citizens, this doesn’t affect you at all.

IT DOES NOT ADD AN EXTRA LAYER IN YOUR CASE

How is that not changing the policy on children born to US Citizen armed forces overseas?

It's not because it's clarifying the application process and heading off a very common error that delays processing the documents for citizenship application. If you are in the military and a US citizen serving overseas there is a process that has to be met for the newborn to have documentation for citizenship. This is also an issue for SM's who marry a foreign spouse that already has children. Can't simply claim that their US-based residence counts for children who have never lived there. That's always been the case and nothing in the memo presents a bar to citizenship through the proper process.

Yes it does:

DOS has interpreted INA 320 to apply solely to children who are physically in the United States and does not recognize an exception by policy for children of U.S. military and U.S.government employees stationed outside of the United States.

If you have to petition for you child’s citizenship

Yes it does for all those stationed overseas

I’m familiar with the process of passports and child birth abroad certificates

You would now have to go through the naturalization process every time. Previously, if you met the residency requirements, you would simply fill out a form and your child is automatically a citizen.

Then yes it add more layers of paperwork and cost

They need to clarify this quick

Iirc my wife - while I was on AD - was around $500. Application, photos, interview, test, citizenship.

I don’t remember how much it was for each of my boys

For birth abroad, initial passport and all the rest the processing fees wasn’t cheap

My wife’s green card has been $1800 so far

Yeah, you paid more, my wife moved from UK to us in high school, so her parents paid the green card stuff lol. I forgot about that, but was speaking post permanent resident status.

Well it doesn't except in cases that never applied to you, you dumb shite.

It actually does the opposite since it's clarfying a common problem that often results in application delays.

No sense in arguing with someone who has never been through the process

My kids I didn’t have to petition for their citizenship

If this policy requires people to do so while born abroad then it adds more to the process

Hopefully they clarify this, dunno how many times I have to say this

I’m not jumping to any conclusions

Clames is running his mouth about something he has no experience with again?

We are shocked.
