LINK

And does so with an included diatribe against capitalism. It sure is easy to hate the capitalist system when "money is a joke," but also not your cash that you're burning.

What an arse.

Though most of his readers are from out of state or the country, Campbell said he believes there are backers in the Chicago area that gave him $75 two years ago and have not received their copies of "Sad Pictures for Children."

When asked by a reporter if he would be willing to have the donors pick up the books, since he cannot afford to ship them, Campbell said he would "consider it" but the plan is to still burn the remaining books and produce another video.

Hopefully he burned himself in the process. Those donors certainly did.

So he spent $30k printing many more copies than he needed, $5k for back taxes and he has no money left? What happened to the other $15k-ish?

Im sure because it was a "Donation" that nothing can be done, but on the slim chance, could he be sued for obtaining money under false pretenses???

Yeah, it's capitalism's fault that people gave him $50,000 and he blew it.

What an idiot.

He could have started another Kickstarter campaign for a separate project and used some of that funding to ship the remaining books out.

I've never heard of this site. Is there one similar to it where you can propose an actual small business rather than a project?

Crowd funding has been around for a while.

Here is how to make a successful Kickstarter project.

1. Base the vision of the project on a dead relative.
2. Say the project supports the gay community; whether true or not.
3. Create a short, to the point video. Don't speak to the camera. Do voice overs on dramatic footage that you created.
4. Profit.

Ditto Deltaland

Been looking for something along these lines to find funders for small start ups.

I'm currently working with an investment banker who runs an online site for business funding that I got connected with through a social media site I paid to use that links to bankers and angel investors.

I ran a search on them and they've funded projects of up to 15 million dollars worth. (I need at least 1.3 million but the goal is 1.7).

We have many interested investors and that may lead somewhere, but I'm in need of 500k to by a certain deadline in order to obtain the property I want. The crowd funding thing sounds like a good option to raise some of that money if there is a place that exists to do it for businesses. Kickstarter seems like it's just for small projects or technological ideas.

"Well, I certainly feel like a chump now." -Kickstarter donor

Considering you profited the exact same amount off your investment as you would have if he had succeeded and become a billion dollar company - you were a chump to begin with.

I fail to get kickstarter. I get charity - and I get investment - kickstarter it seems tries to be the worst of both.

I don't think so since he printed the copies and made at least SOME attempt to mail them. I think any lawsuit would be more along the lines of breaking a contract (people paid for a certain service/product but did not receive it). I don't know that contract law has gone into the Kickstarter realm yet, so this may be new ground.
