It's nothing special, but not a shite hole. Danville is a shithole. Decatur is worse than Champaign as well, but not as bad as Danville. I'd also say Champaign is better than Springfield.
I live about an hour away in a smaller rural area. Definitely nothing special, but tons of great state parks and nature. Plenty of shitholes across this country worse than central IL.

There are only a few towns in MS or LA that are in the same league.

I doubt the dude has been all through Champaign. Sure it looks like a shithole if you drive past on 57 or go through on 74, or drive south on prospect. Downtown and Campus is really nice. Will be having my kid at Carle any day, and it's one of the best hospitals in the State. Low crime compared to other towns its size - minus ying ying

And yeah there isn’t anything bad about Champaign, just nothing exceptionally nice. Luckily there has been a pretty big push to bring more business into downtown and south Neil so there are way more restaurants and things to do now than when we first moved here. Also home to one of the nicest escape room places in the country

Don't know why you are laughing. He said he has a condo in Wrigleyville, which a lot of people who live south do . His 10 acres is probably in Champaign where he said he lived. Land isn't cheap in central Illinois. In my small town an acre is usually over $25k.

I went there, to that bar/terrace the weekend of the LSU/Wisonsin game at Green Bay. They view from there is awesome.

How is he poor? If he owns 10 acres that land is probably worth about 300k. I know people who think they are rich that have toys etc, and live off of credit cards or business loans.
A lot of you are just talking shite because the topic now is central IL. I've been all over this country and this area is nowhere as bad as what people are saying or compared to other locations. If you're a city person I can understand the hesitation, but if you're rural, it's a dumb argument.
There's also more behind the scenes like how everyone thinks Illinois is a shite hole because of Chicago. The real Illinois - gods land - suffers from upstate corrupt politics.

Its in copper harbor in the UP of michigan. Beautiful place right on lake superior. Luckily me and my bought it before the tourism boom of a few years ago. Now that same amount of land would be waaaaaaaaaay out of price range. Great place to go for a few weeks in the summer, would hate to be there in the winter though

Yeah this isn't some crazy luxury. A ton of people affiliated with the university or Carle will buy / rent a place in chicago. We rent ours out when we are not using it so it's not like its a big expense.
