Yeah because that’s worked out so well in the past for other service companies such as the bakers in Colorado who didn’t want to bake the cake for the gay wedding.

The bakers should be allowed to refuse to bake a cake for the gay wedding.

I'm not sure who you're arguing against here.

They are making Dave even more popular, and throwing shade on themselves; they can’t get out of their own way….

Interesting. If they advertised the show and customers paid money in good faith, it seems a contract might have been violated.

Im sure Hank will be along shortly to tell you just how wrong you are on this take.

Can attest just from flying through there earlier this week that MSP is a liberal/raghead utopia. Still dumbfounded that I was the only white guy with a true suntan in the entirety of Terminal 1 during middle of July

Liberal freak publicity stunt. I'm sure they didn't just get complaints at the last second. Dave Chapelle does not hide his opinions and they were fully aware of who he is when they booked the show.

That's why I used measured language.

I doubt there's any actual recourse since they did make a reasonable accommodation, but it seemed unnecessarily insulting to paying customers, who bought a product on invitation.

"Even though we advertised and sold you this ticket we have come to the realization that you are a very, very bad person for wanting to see this show. If you want to watch this kind of garbage, go watch it somewhere else."

Eh.. it's the free market in action. As long as government isn't blocking him from accessing venues, I've got no issue with venues blocking people based on their beliefs. If a Trump-supporting venue wants to block Biden supporters, it's their economic right (as much as it's a bad business decision). Customers should vote with their feet and not visit the club in punishment. It's the same with that baker case - that baker had every right to refuse service and I'm not going to hear otherwise

I don’t disagree in principle but if he already had a contract to perform at the venue and they cancelled at the last minute he should be compensated.

he’s been doing that for almost 2 decades now. it clearly isn’t working, so rather than have a venue cancel on you last minute, just stop booking the venues. have your agent confirm in advance that they aren’t woke retards, and it won’t happen anymore

it’s time to stop treating Chapelle with kid gloves. just because he has one liners in a set that you like doesn’t mean he won’t pull the lever for those people. in fact, he does so and announces it publicly, all from the safety of his compound in Ohio

Why did they book him in the first place? It’s not like his specials had just aired or that the world didn’t realize he wasn’t woke until just now. I’d be pissed if I was Chappelle, this seems like an idiot move by the club management.

There are contracts with these bookings. Dave’s attorneys probably have him taken care of.

The venue is looking for publicity or they are complete idiots.

How about we start prosecuting people who issue threats to businesses and individuals?

Free market allows fascism, but fascism doesn't return the favor. This is good old-fashioned left-wing fascism, and as such, it is a bridge too far for me, as much as I support a free market in its core principles.

The venue itself is a service. It can refuse entry to anyone or refuse to host a show or heck, move a show to another venue. The show itself is sold out but the venue itself has the right to refuse service.

Today in my old hometown paper they announced the David Chappelle show sold out within minutes of the box office opening. This is in deep blue Norcal.

No, it's consistency.

Either you're in favor of free markets or not.

The venue is providing a service and hence should be allowed to refuse entry/refuse to provide the service of providing a place to host an event.

They should refund money to anyone who they refuse service too BUT it would be a part of the agreement people both viewing the show + people who booked the venue signed.
