Link?

How do you know it's not the other stuff they'd rather not report, it's just that it sells better?

No we believe them when it's not fake news.

It must be easy being a liberal. You need the IQ of a boot.

When you define 'fake news' as simply news you do not want to hear, as this board seems to, it becomes circular.

Oh come on you know damn well CBS does NOT want to report anything positive about Trump but they have to in order to remain legitimate.

You lose again.

Fake news is a complete and utter distortion or misrepresentation of facts used to score political points.

Naive question I’m sure. I admit I’m no trade war expert. If China has a + 600 billion trade deficit with us how can they even compete in a trade war? Seems like retaliation only hurts thier exports and thier economy exponentially more than ours.

People don't understand as you have pointed out that China has way way more to lose than the USA and that means we have the upper hand.
Who has more to gain or to lose if your boss tells you you have to work for 5% cut in pay or lose your job?

The fact that we have a $600 billion dollar trade deficit with them is insane, and it certainly paints the "trade war" in a different light than their usual garbage.

These are usually the facts they leave out when writing articles. I applaud them for finally showing some journalistic integrity.

While that is ordinarily true, on this board (I noticed you left this part out) there is very little grasp of actual, provable facts, so it turns into fake news being news people don't want to hear.

Just do a search on this board for "fake news" and see what you get.

China responded early Friday with its own tariffs on a $34 billion range of American goods including soybeans and pork. The risk now is that the tit-for-tat that marked the verbal standoff will translate into escalation in action, as each side tries to one-up the other...

So China's response is "we're going to make a billion people pay more for food"?

China's economy was really slowing prior to the so-called "trade war". They can't handle a prolonged trade war at all. China is being very aggressive and bluffing because they are not in a strong position and they know it. Chinese markets are struggling.

POTUS is playing the long game.

Whether one thinks the current situation is untenable or not is immaterial. Why? Because it's the entirety of all the prior globalized "free trade" deals that is the untenable part.

What the current administration has done is taken a play right out of not "The Art of The Deal" (November, 1987 Random House), but rather, the movie "Margin Call" (2011, Lionsgate), when John Tuld (Jeremy Irons) states (paraphrasing), "It's not called panicking, if you're first."

Using the above for context: the U.S. is the one that is now first out the door of these untenable trade agreements constructed out of whole-cloth business assumptions permeated and perpetuated throughout academia and government house organs everywhere. And it is China that is beginning to panic.

There is no way China can win.
The differences between The U.S. and China are huge.

#1 important difference: we can supply our own food. The only food imports we have to have, are specialty items. Do we really have to have them?

#2 important difference: The people here can afford to buy our consumer goods, and the more that we are producing, the more true this becomes, because the demand for workers, will drive wages higher (yes this brings about inflation, but that's a natural part of the economic cycle).

China's population can't do that, not to the scale that China needs to produce.

China is kind of new to this capitalism stuff, I'm not too sure that they have a full common understanding of it yet.
They are seriously under-armed for this kind of war.

Not a mention of China's trade policy, just the war drum beat of American protectionism.

Reprocity.

Objective journalism? This is refreshing

And we will win the trade war. I've been so sick of pussies in the past backing down because of the threat of trade war. Nobody can beat us in a trade war. We can outlast them in the short term pain

Or you get a much better job working in the steel or aluminum industry because our market is no longer flooded with underpriced metal.

Was it protectionism, for all of these years, when our "trade partners" were placing big tariffs on our goods?
