Govt workers typically have a shitty work ethic. Just like union workers.

Welfare for corporations?
So we give them money for having done nothing, because that’s what welfare is.
Corporate welfare isnt good, but it is necessary in some cases.
It is welfare because our taxes are subsidizing their employees. If they covered the full cost (healthcare, etc.) Of their employees then nobody would complain.
Louisiana is in a bind because we need incentives to keep the few businesses that are here. It's a tactical decision, but its made from a position of desperation not strength.
I believe in letting companies keep profit, but hold an expectation that they in turn will invest in us.

I’m currently sitting on conference call line waiting for no one else but government workers to join. So there’s that.
They are probably busy. State government jobs and federal jobs are very different.
I work for state gov and my office is a fricking machine. Our staff is too valuable and keeps getting poached by the private sector who pays MUCH better.
I understand that my office wasnt always like this but me and the other most senior individual in my team pushed to have two low performers fired and it wasn't difficult at all.

Probably federal workers who are paid more than their private counterparts

But we don’t give them anything, we simply choose to take less away than normal.

Because you're a collectivist and a "society first" type

That's great for them. It's not great for the state as a whole. I guess it depends on your values. If you truly believe in only individual value, then it really shouldn't bother you if your state has fewer industries so long as those deemed deserving are making money.

This is in Louisiana? Which office?
Every experience I have ever had with a state government bureaucrat in LA has been riddled with inefficiency and incompetence. If not by the specific individual with whom I’m dealing, then almost certainly by their staff or related bureaucracy.
The people that fill the halls of the Soviet style buildings in Baton Rouge are some of the most useless employees in the public sector. The bloat is unreal.
I have no doubt that the federal government is even worse. I cannot imagine the entitlement and performance cushions that those people have.

Everyone is a collectivist. The difference is what collective you belong to.
The race, the sex, the nationality
The county, the state, the country
The family, the military, the church
The social class, the blue collar, the white collar
We chose arbitrary combinations and arbitrary prioritization to form an identity. We all care about "a collective", we just ignore the others.

I'm certain this has been stated multiple times, but have you ever been to the DMV? Needed to get a permit for anything? Tried to start and operate a business? Tried to get a tax refund from the LDR for unconstitutional double taxation on income earned out of state, only to be told to go pound sand?
And the thought that these people have public sector unions or civil service protections with guaranteed pay raises not linked to any performance metrics just for continuing to show up and prime healthcare and retirement benefits, then you can see how some can have a pinch of animosity.

Yes. I've read. And I hoped that my earlier response meant I agree with the general complaints.
Is there a higher percentage of government workers that are lazy? probably.
And yes the DMV is super slow. I'd rather pay a $100 fee for a faster service slow. Its the poster child of government practice.
I'm defending government jobs because they are the only jobs that pay decently in many areas ( look at my list, those are places I personally know of).

Get in line at the DMV when lunch hour hits. It doesnt matter the work load, the number of available people, etc. If it is your lunch hour you close up...period.
This is microcosm of govt, the govt policies and procedures prevail no matter the situation. In a private setting you just skip lunch to accommodate the crowd.
The bosses make more money, the patrons are happier, the employees should prosper.
The govt department will just continue to be a pit of bureaucracy and misery.

Army Corp of Engineers' construction specification writers have gotten a $1,000,000 construction project spec book up to two volumes, three inches thick.
Their inspectors show up at the project with a cross, hammer and nails.

Can someone explain the animosity towards Government workers?
Lazy, overpaid, bad entitled attitudes, corrupt, incompetent, ineffective.
I'm sure there are more adjectives and expletives that I'm forgetting. But that's just the basic.
Some of them I assume are good people.

You can get away with all types of stuff in govt jobs that you could never get away with in private jobs. Poor performers are carried and promoted as an example.
This is a huge issue, but it starts with hiring practices. When people can manipulate applications and lie about qualifications, get hired, and go through a probationary period before they are figured out...at which point it's too late to fire them because of fear of a lawsuit...you have a problem.
Also, all they want to do when a problem gets too bad is put people on opportunity to improve plans over, and over, and over again.
There are good people in the government, just like in the private sector. They just get overshadowed by the bad.
I know a woman that just assumes anyone working for the government will eventually turn into a bureaucrat that sits on their hands and mooches off the public. Just like every other public employee she's know. I don't understand how someone can be that cynical about anyone working in a particular sector.

GOVERNMENT UNIONS
Are almost all
DEMOCRAT VOTERS
Secretly push the progressive cause and do their best to curtail any and all conservative issues.
If we ever have a second civil war, most government workers will be treated the same as their democrat staffers and democrat politician colleagues.
