He's not going to engage you in a debate. That much is certain.

It has been apparent to everyone all day that neither Trump nor the rank and file reckless republicans on this board have any idea what they are talking about.

We don't "pay" for France's military. NATO allies don't "pay" a percentage of their GDP into NATO. Each country pays for its own military using its own taxpayers. The US taxpayer does not "pay" for France's military through NATO.

So who should they pay? What debts are you talking about?

Well that's not at all true.

First of all, there is a NATO organizational budget, and it's about $1.4 Billion in 2018, and consistently climbing.

And the US pays around 22% of that (approximately $310 million).

Second of all, a bunch of our budget goes directly overseas. It's certainly not all spent domestically.

LINK <= As you can see there, we spend around $33B on foreign aid, and around $15B on foreign military aid.

But that doesn't even include the DoD which spends another nearly $77B on overseas military operations.

So not only do we pay 22% of the NATO organizational budget, but we also pay upwards of $127 BILLION in non-domestic defense spending and foreign aid.

What the hell do you think the 200,000 troops we have overseas are doing? We have between 35,000-50,000 troops in Germany right now. You ever ask why? And who's paying for that?

Clearly it's you who doesn't know WTF he's talking about.

Good grief, you are still stuck on the semantics of the argument?

Let me spell it out in small words for you: They should increase their spending on their individual military in a manner that brings them in line with the commitment they made in 2002 and have been ignoring for far too long.

If other NATO countries paid more for their own defense we wouldn’t have to build ours up as much

We are spending what we do because the MIC whores in congress are going to feed their masters, anyone who believes otherwise is a fool. The rest of NATO has jackshit to do with what we spend.

At the same time Trump is correct for calling them out on both spending and trade with Russia.

If it was up to me the US would not have a single base overseas on a permanent basis and we would stay at 2% GDP on military spending, but i am not foolish enough to believe the MIC will allow the gravy train to be cut off.

I really wish I believed the line on this thread that, were our allies to increase military spending, we would decrease ours. Unfortunately, I'm practically certain that Neocons will then argue that we need to further increase military spending, lest we be left behind.

The amount is supposed to go to building their own military, dumbass. So they can pay any fricking contractor they want that will build their defense. Because we wont stay there and spend our money protecting those asswioes from a country they just decided to become energy dependent on! Get it, clown?

We're protecting them from Russia, on our own fricking dime and they have the fricking balls to make a pipeline deal with the very people we're protecting them from???

AND THEN, have the fricking nerve to talk shite about us to the international media.

AND impose ridiculously unequal tariffs on US goods.

frick that. frick ALL OF THAT.
