California Tire Legislation

I'm suprised this hasn't been posted yet. They've dictated replacement tires must meet standards that reduce friction and tread in order to be more efficient in the name of climate change.

On Monday, the California Energy Commission unanimously green lit the new rules to phase out the sale of replacement tires that don’t meet the state’s energy-efficiency standards.
“I already can’t afford to buy a new set of tires,” said Kenny Cabello, a student from Long Beach who spoke to The California Post as he wiped down his pickup truck at a local car wash Tuesday. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”
Cabello said he needs a new set of tires for his Nissan soon. As a regular commuter who feels the pinch of California’s highest-in-the-nation gas prices, he’s already been researching the most fuel-efficient options.

According to the Tire Industry Association, average tire prices could increase from $81 to up to $157. If someone purchased four new tires for his or her car, the difference could exceed $300 per vehicle.

Drive to the state line and buy some tires.

that reduce friction and tread
Wouldn’t this be a bad thing? Like on wet roads?

They're insane.
It's what happened with one party rule in a state. And if they won at the national level it would turn into tyranny.

I need to find some of the videos of the proponents of this that were on the news.... They look exactly like what you would expect they look like.
So Californians are going to pay almost an additional 300 for a set of new tires that don't last as long. Brilliant

Where are they buying tires for 81 dollars a tire? Most new tires run close to 100-150 or more plus installation.
And if you have an EV prepare thy anus not only for the added expense those tires run, but because of weight of the battery, EVs are know to go through tires like crazy.

You can get the el cheapo tires that go on small 4 door sedans for 60-80 bucks. They are shite, but they work on those cars.

Not $81 tires.
The average tire price will increase by a minimum of $81.
If you are buying $250 tires, they now cost you $331 each.
I had to read it twice to make sure.

Sounds like it would impact Interstate Commerce, thus should be struck down in federal court.

Soooo, you've never been to California. Got it.

I haven't looked up what the enforcement mechanism is.... I
s it that dealers can't sell the other tires in Cali and that is the only check/balance?
Are the tires marked and then at yearly inspection, they are checked?
What happens if someone goes across Nevada border and gets "illegal" tires, how is it enforced?

I read about yesterday and decided that it was so fricking insane that it wasn't worth posting it here.

This is part of the "affordability" crisis everyone is talking about. States like California and New York put policies like this into place that raise costs for people. So the reality is the affordability problem isn't so much a nation wide issue as it is a blue state issue. Then the media tells everyone it's a problem for everyone.

The never Trumpers and RINOs need to understand this. The duped democrat voters don't realize they'll be subject to the tyranny as well. They think they're under some authoritarian / Fascist rule now, they'll get to experience it good and hard, but for real !

They want you on the government bus. They're just using climate change to control you.

But when it does, there are tons of wrecks because those tards already don't know how to drive in the rain.

quote:Reducing friction hardens the tire which gives it less grip, thus less carbon leaving the tire and entering the environment in the same time frame. Same amount, actually, but the tires will last longer, so cumulatively there are fewer tires in the landfill.
