Good effort, but you can't move the city...... Crime will not change.

Similar situation in Shreveport. The southern part of the city wants to secede, which I hope to god they are able to do some day.

By the time that happens it will be too late...probably already is.
See Baton Rouge as an example.

They want their own police force.

Exactly… So their money can directly go to fund more officers patrolling the area they live in instead of subsidizing officers in other parts of the city while their area burns to the ground.
I’d be willing to bet if they did get their own force, most would vote for a tax increase to ramp up law enforcement even more.

Starting their own ISD would probably be a bonus.
You know people living there aren’t using the Atlanta public schools yet they are paying freight for it.

Georgia constitution prohibits the creation of new school systems, and the BEC is assuming that they’ll continue to use Atlanta Public Schools (which is legally questionable).

If you haven’t been shot at in Lenox mall….you haven’t been to buckhead

why? this seems odd

The idea was to reduce duplication of systems. All municipal districts that were in existence prior to 1945 (i.e. Atlanta, Decatur, Marietta, etc.) were grandfathered in.

“They really don’t care about Buckhead,” Mr. White, said about city officials. “They just want the money.”
Nobody wants to live with the thugs.
Why do the demonrats want to force you to?

More cops isn't going to fix Buckhead's problem now. That was a 20-years-ago solution.

Same geographic location used to be a magnet for shopping, dining and partying. Weird how that's changed over the years. As crime went up, the draw became less and less.

Agree but that ship has sailed.

The loss is about $200m to Atlanta schools (1/3 of budget) and approximately $80-114m out of a $710m to the city of Atlanta (roughly 1/7 of budget).
Let all the rich 20 and 30 somethings that live stacked in apartment boxes in Midtown and mock us OTPers foot the bill, while still forking out private school tuition for Brayden to avoid being in the Grady cluster.

Problem is, massive investments were made to turn parts of Buckhead into Rodeo drive, with high end shops and dining. While 'The Village' has been built over, there's still Lenox and Phipps Plaza, high end hotels and the like. No reason why crime has to be just accepted.

Gotcha...seems kind of restrictive now

Not if you make it uncomfortable for the criminal elements. APD does not.

I go to the ATL for business, and I despise it.
I hope that Buckhead succeeds- someone needs to draw a line in the sand.
