I think more consideration should be considered for defunding this police department if not all police departments. It should be coupled with the repeal of any restrictions on conceal/carry and other useless firearms regulations. Citizens should be able to defend themselves and police should be able to investigate crimes if and when they happen.
We don't need police departments "finding" or "creating" crimes.
In any event, avoid this town.
Downvote away.

I can't think of any reason anyone would find theirself in brookside. I know a small stretch of I22 runs through brookside but they don't have the population to even stop you for speeding on the interstate according to Alabama law.

I don't know anything about the town but this is ridiculous. Another example of runaway government and the erosion of Liberty.

I agree. It's an old mining camp outside of birmingham that nobody has to travel through.
That being said they have an ungodly amount of drug busts. And I'm not talking about a bag of weed bust, I'm talking pounds.

I hope all of those people who have sued them are successful.
Except the woman who was driving in the left lane.
She- and all others like her- should be fined and imprisoned and have their driver’s licenses permanently revoked and be put in stocks naked and cold in the town square and be forced to watch The Masked Singer 18 hours per day for the next year and attend all Tennessee football games for 3 seasons… without helmets or protective gear.

If you have a town that writes tickets for going a couple MPH over…. Then you get people together in an understanding and drive 15 mph through town. Gridlock it.
There used to be a town near me that was famous for writing tickets. They were even writing tickets on the state divided Highways when they had zero authority to do so. They were admonished publicly by a judge for it.
People just stopped going there. They went to another town. So what they were making in tickets.. they lost in tax revenue.

Dale County, Alabama has a population of around 50k, covering 560 square miles. The sheriff's department has an aviation unit consisting of 2 Bell Jet Ranger helicopters an MD600N helicopter, and a Cessna 182 plane.
Do you know the cost incurred in operating a helicopter, much less properly maintaining one? This has always been a huge waste of taxpayer money in my eyes. It's been going on for years.

When Jones was hired as chief in 2018, he was the only full-time police officer, he said in sworn testimony for a lawsuit filed against him and the city. By last summer, he said in a deposition, Brookside had hired eight additional full-time officers and several part-timers.
So they hired more police officers and that resulted in more fine revenue. I'm not sure this is as crazy as John Archibald wants it to be.

Highway robbery is an ancient racket. It doesn't smell any sweeter when done by government gangsters.

I agree with you. That police department should be defunded and the people involved should serve 3-5 years in prison. All fines should be paid back to the people that were given tickets. Let the county police handle that area. It's bullshite like this that turns everyday people against the police. Ripping people off through traffic tickets goes on everywhere and it should be ended.
