They are training, doing a walk through in a shoot house, no mags and hopefully no ammo. He has a carbine length hand guard using a mid length or rifle length grip. The #1 guy has a mid length using the same grip. It gives you more barrel control swinging horizontally.

I have many hours spent conducting and teaching CQB. I spent two years at SOTG. I’ve never seen anyone hold a barrel like that. When I saw the picture, I assumed someone took a screen capture from the school video. Makes more sense for it to be training.
