And what happened to all the teams - high school and college - around the US that branded away from Indian themes in the past 30 years?

It was.

When the team was created Redskin was not considered offensive. It even shows up in the writing of Indians during that period. Some used the term themselves.

It’s simply a term that’s gone out of fashion, like the world oriental.
That's probably true. So what's so bad about changing something to move with the times?

Don't think HS really matters

What major colleges have abandoned those names?

My son just graduated high school with the class of 2020. His school mascot is the Redskins. I’m actually quite surprised they haven’t been forced to change.

It’s brilliant actually. This is what all companies should do. Say “we’ll take a look at it,” let all this crap die down, which it will after the election, and then don’t change anything about your company.

The NFL deserves it. This is what they get for indulging the SJW mob.

Syracuse is probably the biggest one. Miami Ohio also did it. ULM as well.

I believe Stanford changed it way back in the day when Plunkett was there.

Because it’s illiterate behavior.

And because grievance culture is toxic, and should be stamped out, wherever it appears.

And the idea that we should change with the times is one or those revolutionary, Marxist ideas.

The past doesn’t and shouldN’t comport to the transitory values of our modern life.

What about the Chiefs, Braves, and Indians?
Saints? Crusades ring a bell?
Patriots? Thats obviously gotta go. They owned slaves
Buccaneers? Didn't pirates kill innocent people?
Vikings? White murderers.
49ers? Greedy white bastards.
Raiders?

The "Indian" became the mascot for Stanford's athletic teams in 1930 and continued as such through 1970, its most common manifestation being a caricature of a small Indian with a big nose. In November of 1970 a group of Native presented to the acting Dean of Students a petition objecting to another incarnation of the Indian mascot, the live performances over 19 years at athletic events by Timm Williams, or Prince Lightfoot. The students believed the performances to be a mockery of Indian religious practices. In January 1971, the Native American students met with University President Lyman to discuss the end of the mascot performances. This first collective action established SAIO as a newly-formed organization in the Stanford community.

In February of 1972, 55 Native American students and staff at Stanford presented a petition to the University Ombudsperson who, in turn, presented it to President Lyman. The 1972 petition urged that "the use of the Indian symbol be permanently discontinued"--and further urged that the University "fulfill its promise to the students of its Native American Program by improving and supporting the program and thereby making its promise to improve Native American education a reality." The petition further stated that the Stanford community was not sensitive to the humanity of Native Americans, that the lack of understanding displayed by the name of a race being placed on its entertainment, and that a race of humans cannot be entertainment. The mascot in all its manifestations was, the Indian group maintained, stereotypical, offensive, and a mockery of Indian cultures. The group suggested that the "University would be renouncing a grotesque ignorance that it has previously condoned" by removing the Indian as Stanford's symbol, and by "retracting its misuse of the Indian symbol" Stanford would be displaying a "readily progressive concern for the American Indians of the United States."

Sounds perfectly literate to me.

Stanford went on to become one of the top universities of all time and also has an incredible sports program across the entire spectrum. Weird that you think it's "toxic". Then again, you probably would have thought the Civil Rights movement was "grievance culture that should be stamped out."

Washington Redtails is probably the best one I've seen, but...

The Washington Filibusters
The Washington Scandals
The Washington SuperPACs
The Washington Dumpster Fires (think of the merch!)
The Washington Monuments (the other teams tear them down each Sunday. Heyo!)

When the team was named - Redskin was a socially acceptable term, used by Indians themselves.

Drawing in a mascot, used by Stanford, has nothing to do with this discussion.

Your use of that, to justify your argument suggests dishonesty, or sloppy thinking.

Your use of the civil rights movement in the second half of your post, tells me it’s dishonesty.

You’re probably incapable of making a factual argument, because you don’t actually know anything about the period, or the issue. Yet that doesn’t stop you.

I don’t know you, but the people I’ve met who act this way are usually toxic, resentful, and personally weak.

I hope that’s not you, for your sake.

Here are some suggestions for them to ponder:

Washington Beauracrats
Washington Deep State
Washington Social Justice Warriors
Washington Independents
Washington Leeches
Washington Porkers
Washington Woke
Washington Never Trumpers

I will take my finders fee in tickets and airfare, or send me some leftover Redskin memorabilia. It will probably be worth more.
