Y'all need to cut Toddy and the rest of the democrats some slack.. As a party they have been skull drug for a year now. They have won their Super Bowl by retaining a governor's seat in Virginia that was previously occupied by a democrat.

The fact that they didn't lose another democrat seat is their victory tonight.

Gillespie tied or lost some of these counties by 2 points two years ago. Tonight he lost some of those by 20 to 30 points. Spin THAT.

No need in spinning it. Why would I? I am anti GOP establishment.

The fact is Where HRC won, 2 seats went GOP. Where Trump won, so far, 1 went Blue.

That's the bottom line.

That’s how bad the past few elections have been for the D’s. Holding a D governorship Seat in a reliably blue state is viewed as a huge upset and momentum swing. The local news here in BR actually said “ a Dem candidate for governor pulls off a shocking win in VA”. It’s now a shock when a DEM wins anything even in a blue state.

The big takeaway tonight is that the Democrats turned out. There are a lot more Democrats so if this enthusiasm holds into next year, look out. ESPECIALLY in suburbia. That's where the repudiation of Trump was tonight. The rural areas with a 1,000 collective votes are still Trump, although the majority of them saw a blue shift tonight. We'll see how this transcends into other states next year.

They still have not wrapped their minds around the fact that Trump actually gained a seat from the areas that Hillary won.

94th HRC won, but the GOP won the seat.

100th, HRC won... Gop won the seat.

85th Trump won by 1%.. with 94% reporting the Dem is up by 2

You have a very short-sighted view (not surprising because The Hill didn’t spoon feed you what to say)

Republican lost every major race (governor, lt governor, attorney general) as well as the house of delegates. The margarins almost all broke dem tonight. It is in no way a win for republicans much less trump

Add to that New Jersey, list control of senate in Washington, lost many mayoral elections.

But keep thinking you won hoss. It’s why you’re you

1- Trump didn't win VA.

2- In every district that HRC won in 2016, the GOP lost except for 2. Are you capable of following that?

3- Every district that Trump won, the GOP kept except for 1 and we still have 94% reporting.

It's not that hard kiddo.

So 2 wins in districts the Hillary won is not a win?

I mean the Areas that Trump won... only 1 seat was lost.

That's Plus 1.

No... the story is that democrats turned out in a democrat area that went for Hillary. Well.... except for 2 districts.

But by all means. Please continue....

No. Its not. The areas that Hillary won voted the same way. The areas that Trump won went his way.

I am a little curious what you mean by saying that Trump or the GOP "gained a seat"?

The GOP won in the 94th and 100th, it is true, but those were GOP incumebents running and we all know incumbents have some advantages.

They (the two GOP winners) were there in the House, they will remain in the House, why do you keep saying the GOP "gained" these two seats?

LINK

LINK

The seat the Dems won, was indeed a flip. GOP loses to a Dem.

LINK

Secondly the Dems have increased their numbers in the House of Delegates by 14 seats. If the 5 seats that are so close they will be recounted break the way they ate leaning now, then the Democrats will have gained 2 more seats for a total of 16 pick ups.

If they get to 16 pickups, the Virginia House is in a 50-50 tie. Up until tonight the talk was that the Dems were hoping - at best - for a ten seat pick-up and even that was seen as a bit of a far fetched best-case scenario. They greatly outperformed.

But if the Republicans that won are like Paul Ryan or this Gillespie guy, does it matter?
