No, they have to state it's a drill when they send out alerts. But not everyone realizes that I guess. But they just announced over the intercom in my building (not the same building as the supposed shooter) that the drill was scheduled to be tomorrow.

Correct...they have been reporting "THIS IS NOT A DRILL" over the EWS system.

Should be interesting to watch the narrative on this board twist depending on the context of situation

You are thinking people will be ok with it if it is domestic terrorism?
I have a feeling people will be ticked off no matter who it is....but will be really ticked off if it is something that could have been avoided with stricter immigration laws.

WTF with, my pen or pencil. Too bad guns aren't allowed by all others being told to fight someone who does have one.

With whatever the hell you can get your hands on during an emergency. Chair, table, broom, hell throwing a stapler at the idiot is better than laying there in a ball.

I worked at Anniston Army Depot at the incinerator, and the active shooter drills there were intense. They would storm the building with M16s and straight up act as if everyone was a threat and clear each person one by one, screaming and telling everyone to get down and don't move. Really, that place was always pretty intense, roving security guards with automatic weapons has a way of keeping you on your toes.

Doesn't necessarily mean you have to go head to head in a shoot out, but if you're able to place a location on the shooter or help keep others safe, you fight to see another day.

Or you could stab him in the eyes with your pencils.

Exactly! Barricade the door, turn the lights off and stay quiet. If the active shooter enters the room find the first opportunity to fight in an effort to disarm the shooter.

It's a last ditch effort and that's why they say it last. Having a gun in these situations would actually be the worst thing. Imagine 100 people with guns while the SWAT teams attempts to clear out the area.

Anyways, prayers sent man. Don't care if this guy or girl is white/black/indian/hispanic/middle eastern of fricking pink and purple swirls, assholes who kill innocents need not exist.

I had to oversee some work being done on the incinerator one day back a few years ago and it did seem pretty intense. It got more intense when the crew I was overseeing saw me with a cell phone and wanted to know how I got a cell phone in there.

I understand that. Maybe you missed my point. Of course once you start throwing non lethal stuff at someone who may throw bullets back at you, then you're not hiding anymore like you are told to do. I'd much rather run and hide with a gun in my hand if only they would let me, if I'm expected to fight back.

Point taken. Many employers don't allow carry on their premises.

Mine being one of them.
