The number of informants executed in the debacle is higher than initially thought.

quote:

It was considered one of the CIA’s worst failures in decades: Over a two-year period starting in late 2010, Chinese authorities systematically dismantled the agency’s network of agents across the country, executing dozens of suspected U.S. spies. But since then, a question has loomed over the entire debacle.

How were the Chinese able to roll up the network?

quote:

Now, nearly eight years later, it appears that the agency botched the communication system it used to interact with its sources, according to five current and former intelligence officials. The CIA had imported the system from its Middle East operations, where the online environment was considerably less hazardous, and apparently underestimated China’s ability to penetrate it.

“The attitude was that we’ve got this, we’re untouchable,” said one of the officials who, like the others, declined to be named discussing sensitive information. The former official described the attitude of those in the agency who worked on China at the time as “invincible.”

Other factors played a role as well, including China’s alleged recruitment of former CIA officer Jerry Chun Shing Lee around the same time. Federal prosecutors indicted Lee earlier this year in connection with the affair.

But the penetration of the communication system seems to account for the speed and accuracy with which Chinese authorities moved against the CIA’s China-based assets.

“You could tell the Chinese weren’t guessing. The Ministry of State Security [which handles both foreign intelligence and domestic security] were always pulling in the right people,” one of the officials said.

"When things started going bad, they went bad fast."

quote:

The former officials also said the real number of CIA assets and those in their orbit executed by China during the two-year period was around 30, though some sources spoke of higher figures. The New York Times, which first reported the story last year, put the number at “more than a dozen.” All the CIA assets detained by Chinese intelligence around this time were eventually killed, the former officials said.

The CIA, FBI, and National Security Agency declined to comment for this story. The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comment.

At first, U.S. intelligence officials were “shellshocked,” said one former official. Eventually, rescue operations were mounted, and several sources managed to make their way out of China.

John Brennan was somewhere in the mix with all of this by the way.

Yes. One of the worlds largest intelligence apparatus was hacked. I worked in intelligence, counter intelligence, HUMINT. 99% chance this was a leak and not a hack. Identities of under covers is some top leve classified shite on a TSSCI platform. But yeah it was probably hacked

You know for fact that names of these assets weren't stored or transmitted to the on Secretary of States private server?

I remember the Chinese spy driving Di-Fei. But I don't recall 10 seconds of it on the progressive propaganda networks, funny isn't it ?

No I don’t. I know it’s very unlikely and against protocol to send them anywhere on any net for any reason. Even if they were sent it would have been on our most secure servers. But yeah, hack.

Undercover identities and nuclear proliferation are pretty much the 2 most well guarded classified secrets in the intelligence community

Why would the SoS need to know identities of undercover agents? I guess there could be a reason for a few but I definitely don’t see them needing the entire China network and they wouldn’t be told unless they needed to know.

I just a bad feeling that agents of HRC were pulling info off of TSSCI servers and then setting the info up on insecure servers to be "hacked", for political gain, wealth, or blackmail.

There is alledge history with the Chinese, Clintons, high tech trade deals, and money. What's 30 names out of a billion Chinese citizens worth? Cold, yes, but that's how they think. Those weren't people, they were assets, to be bought and sold.

Now that is a possibility. But that is someone leaking their identity to a non secure server.

Seriously, how would TSSCI info get onto say HRC private server? Someone in a SCIF write down or memorize info? I wouldn't think a scif computer wound have a port for a thumb drive

Diane Feinstein call your office......

So they exported the comms approach from the Middle East? Wasn’t Brennan station chief in Ryiadh? How was Brennan ever confirmed? The guy seems to have as consistent a pattern of incompetence as Mueller.

It’s also important to remember just because you are cleared to know something doesn’t mean you can. So for 30 names to be leaked they would need 1 person extremely high up or a handful of people and handlers perfectly placed. I have no idea how it would’ve left the scif. There are standard security measures and then some, like ones that would hold this info, are even more secure. It’s likely it was remembered.

SAP’s were found on Hillary’s emails, and those were the ones they were able to find.

State Dept was a shitshow under Hillary and they routinely cause problems in theater.

John Brennan was Obama's main guy at this time. And he's a communist.

I wonder when the Awan brothers first started working in DC.
