Good catch. I missed that. And we wasted a bunch of time because dudes wanted to argue about other stuff. Not sure how you got your numbers or how you handled unknown race but I got ~50% if I add up all interracial crime (but leave out "unknown"). Still doesn't sound good...but then, maybe that's the wrong measure because the numbers are lower overall and there's some potential for mischaracterizing race to be in play. Why not just say, of the 3499 murders of white people, 533 are perpetrated by Black people? What's the percentage there? 15%, which is lower than the 20% proportion of the population you offered up. Also, let's not forget: 1/3 to 2/5 murders go unsolved. So, we'd have to offer conjecture about how that plays out with the statistics.

Next, you quote rape statistics (from 2005?) and provided no link? Am I using the same FBI data? If so, I'd have to do the math, too, since we got wildly different figures above.

Finally, I'm still wondering here: What's the end goal of arguing that Black people hurt white people more? (And, to be clear, I don't agree with that premise and would have to explain further why not.) But why offer up that claim? Where does it get us? White people should feel angry? White people should ignore voices of protest? White people should think that racism is over? White people should join a race war? (I mean, someone on this thread said: "I will continue to beat the drum....as men as as a society, if we do not start standing up, protecting our children, and destroying evil....we are doomed." So, what does he mean? Who is under attack? All men and their children? White men and their children? I'm not asking these questions to be ignoring or to obscure anything. Instead, I want us to consider whose interests are served when we promote narratives about "Blacks attacking whites." That specter, the threat of the Black criminal created by white people has a bloody and terrible history. Accusations and fears of rape in particular has been part of that history.

It basically restates my point: quite a bit of research, historically and, really, presently has presumed inferiority amongst Black people can, at least in part, be explained biologically. The author outlined that history+present and then asked if we should not see white people’s (1) perpetuation of this kind of racist reasoning and (2) more broad examples of racist violence as some kind of deficiency that needs to be studied as well? Basically, “wait, White people are clearly flawed because they maintain racism but we’re ignoring that.” That’s half of the critique. The other half is summarized in the title...but it’s implicit. The question in the title is demonstrating the absurdity of what white researchers do in their pursuit of proving Black inferiority, particularly at a biological level. I’d summarize it as: hey, if they’re gonna keep this bullshite research up, what’s good for the goose should be good for the gander.

At the end of the day, you had to go out of your way to find one obscure academic commentary from 1997 to ... what? Demonstrate that there’s a whole cottage industry within academia focused on tying white supremacist tendencies to biology? Lol. You won’t find that. That’s not a mainstream idea or even one that gets traction in academia. Instead, you’ll find the very thing I described: vestiges of scientific anti-Black racism. I couldn’t even find the piece in Google Scholar to see how many times it was cited, if any.

I’m not trying to be argumentative or rude. I just feel the need to address this point head on. This is real anxiety (“they might do the same thing to white men”) that white supremacists try to stoke. That’s similarly why I freaked out about the 90% fake statistic because it can feed a similar narrative: “Look at how they’re killing us!” Fake statistics like this one we’re cited by Roof, fueling his anger about “black-on-white crime” LINK.

Let me be clear: I’m not labeling anyone here a white supremacist. I’m not labeling the persons who have posted that fake statistics on this board at least twice white supremacists. I’m simply trying to point out that the slope gets slippery real quick, the anxiety/fear can grow. And some white supremacists are really hoping that anxiety and fear do grow LINK.
