Then don't mix them.

It is NOT Christian to make people do something through the force of government. Jesus taught us to change hearts through our own actions.

He NEVER tried to get Herod to make Jews do what he was suggesting. Government needs to get out of the charity business, so real Christians will have more money to do what they feel led to do.

Like I said religion and politics don't mix. If you buy that politicians are selling you some sort of higher morality than I think you are a touch misguided. To each his own though. You guys are testy today

My point is that liberalism and conservatism incorporate elements of Christianity. Conservative politicians just pander to it a bit more.

When you care about the poor and sick by building your party on demonizing the other side, his point rings true. And if you act like the Democrats aren’t demonizing people of means, you are either being obtuse or ignorant

Partly true but he does get some love here for calling out the intolerant group think left

That's the defining quality of the left. Supporting leftist ideals is to support intolerance. You don't get credit for speaking out against intolerance, when you support and push for the very group that is intolerant.

White knighting is an offensive and racist term. Don't as me how or why it just is because I find it offensive.

Conservatives don’t think every man for himself. They think every man for himself in the eyes of government.

In my opinion you guys are shaping your arguments by taking the best of conservatism and comparing it to the worst of liberalism. Great way to confirm your world view but not particularly honest.

Nothing I believe stems from what some politician told me.

The emphasis on charitable giving primarily held by conservatives is more Christian than the democrat belief of forced redistribution controlled by the government.

The fact that you read that and think it means "every man for himself" further proves that the great disconnect between the two parties often stems not from us disagreeing, but from the left's inability to understand conservatives principles, be it intentionally or unintentionally.

You think the disconnect is only caused by one side? Look how quickly you folks got nasty in this thread. Spare me.

What a crock of shite. He mocks religion so of course religious folks won't like him.

He is smug as hell. His delivery alone warrants a punch to the face most of the time.

I hate him because he mocked soldiers in captivity essentially saying there were staying in a Hilton Hotel.

I will give him credit for hating all religion and constantly pointing out the hypocrisy of the left with their hatred of Christianity but constant defense of Islam.

I don't care that he is a democrat. Just can't stand his delivery and won't forgive his comments about our troops.

Interesting. Would you also sock Trump in the mouth if you came up upon him one day, for him stating publicly that Senator John McCain is not a military hero because he was captured, and that he (Trump) does not care for military soldiers who "allow" themselves to be captured??

I am on the record that Trump caused his own issues with McCain by making that stupid statement.

I don't have to agree 100% with a politician to vote for him. If you wait for 100%, you would never vote.

How many liberals on here attacked Obama for INCREASING the power of the Patriot Act after spending almost 8 years railing on Bush for the Patriot Act?

I have to vote for the politician I think fits my beliefs best and has the best chance of winning. I didn't think any of the other Republicans could win.

As to Maher, he is entertainment. If I don't like the person, I don't have to watch the person. You are comparing apples to oranges. I don't like Maher and his comments about soldiers in captivity wasn't the only reason I dislike him. I clearly stated his smug delivery pisses me off. He has a very punchable face.

What part was silly?

The part where the D Congress voted for Wall Street's multi trillion dollar heist of taxpayer money?

The part where they forced people to buy a product from a for profit company simply for existing?

The part where the previous D administration had a revolving door between its Treasury Department and the Citi boardroom?

The part where the 1% made money hand over fist from 2009-16 while working people's wages failed to keep up with the cost of living?

The part where the last time the Democrats had the ability to pass legislature they used all of their political capital to pass sweeping healthcare legislation delivering subsidized health insurance to millions of poor Americans.

We like all Democrats that voted for Trump. You sure Maher didn't? Without them Dem votes, she would have had her turn.
