The gifted program when I was in middle school was at a black school in a black neighborhood on the other side of town. I had an hour long bus ride to get there.
Paul Breaux???
(Lafayette for those that don't know)
Yes, the gifted and French / Spanish Immersion programs are over there, unfortunately for those students. They are bussed from all over the parish just to keep Paul Breaux from being a "failing school". Those kids test on a very high level and the school is able to average their scores w/ the rest of the population. It's nothing but a shell game and those kids in the aforementioned programs know it. The rezoning they did last year just made the school even worse. There were more fights/arrests than at the high schools in Lafayette Parish. It is lipstick on a pig and does nothing to address the real problem, parental involvement and the inability to get rid of the trouble makers who destroy the learning environment.

The committee likely sends their kids to private school.

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
'The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light'
Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw

Yeah I spent 6th-8th grade at Paul Breaux. Interesting mix of students even outside of gifted.
I knew it.
I was in pvt school, but tested into gifted. There was a bus that once or twice a week took kids from my pvt to Paul Breaux for gt classes. My parents asked if I wanted to go and I passed...at this point I can't recall my 6th grade reasoning. But I remember watching the kids getting put on the bus to head to the ghetto with facial expressions of pale faces getting sent to prison.

There could be a degree of situational irony with this. In my experience, MANY parents of students in gifted classes are liberal Democrats. In NYC, I would imagine that generalization would actually apply to MOST of those parents. It has also been my experience that students in gifted class are "encouraged" by their parents to stay clear of the general student population. This observation seems to apply to all races. In short, he is about to piss off a bunch of voters who preach diversity...for other peoples kids. It think it is an interesting bit of sociology.

I did a once a week class at LJ Alleman in 5th grade. There wasn't a lot of culture shock for me but Paul Breaux had a lot of rich white kids, both gifted and non gifted. We went on some cool field trips too.

Those smug, liberal yankee arseholes years ago decided Southern public schools couldn’t test for admission and you read that article and find they have been doing it forever.
Let’s see how all those schools rate five years from now if they are forced to quit testing for admission.
They didn’t just have gifted classes— they separated their schools with test.
Let the South go back to that!

It worked so well for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, amirite?
Liberals: "look at what works and bring the rest up to the level of the successful? frick that shite. Tryna keep it real. Knock the top off the mountain so everybody has a piece."
When the mountaintop is chopped off, the ensuing avalanche of boulders crushes everybody.

I've said many times that I'm surprised gifted programs and honors/ap classes have lasted this long. It's de facto segregation, which I have no problem with. Schools can't realistically control all the bad kids. just stick them all in the same holding rooms.

Fatima or Cathedral? Fourth and fifth went once a week to Paul Breaux, sixth through eighth it was everyday, high school was Lafayette High. But you get to take a field trip to Chicago!

My wife is a gifted teacher. I just read her the tweet. She’s currently going off on some kind of fired up rant about it while I type this. Save me.

Our schools locally have had integrated classes for decades and they suck. In any given classroom you have special ed to AP kids.
Guess who gets most attention from the staff?

Thats what communism is. Make the smart dumber and the rich poorer. Now everyone is equal
Posted on 8/26/19 at 7:32 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
If they would do that in BR there wouldn't be a need for St George.
