Biden’s doctor stops heart meds with COVID treatment — despite risks of blood clots

President Biden’s physician stopped the commander-in-chief’s use of heart medications Thursday after he began to take Paxlovid to treat COVID-19, White House officials said — despite the fact that doing so elevates the risk of dangerous blood clots.
Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House coronavirus coordinator, said at a press briefing that it’s “very standard” to discontinue the medications during a five-day regimen of the antiviral Paxlovid.
Medical experts had expressed concern about Biden’s use of blood thinner Eliquis to treat atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat condition, while he takes Paxlovid. Biden also takes Crestor to lower his cholesterol.
Jha didn’t address the fact that the Food and Drug Administration specifically warns that “premature discontinuation of any oral anticoagulant, including Eliquis, increases the risk of thrombotic events,” meaning blood clots.
In 1988, Biden survived two brain aneurysms, which blood clots can cause. The drug Eliquis is marketed to lower the risk of stroke and clots for people who have atrial fibrillation.
Jha told reporters that O’Connor told him that heart medications “need to be stopped when you take Paxlovid.”

If this was Trump the media would be flipping out. The media judged the way Trump walked to Marine1 when he had covid.
Or how he carefully went down a slippery ramp as they demanded a cognitive test and accused the doctors results of being deceptive.
But Biden can be at risk for blood clots, heart failure, flub every news presser and scream like a loon---- and nothing to see here.

When you fill a prescription, the drug being given is cross checked with all the other meds in your profile for drug interactions. All my years working, I've never seen something interact with so many different drug classes. There are many cardiac, ED drugs, antidepressants and other classes that interact significantly with this stuff. Most of the recommendations are to discontinue all of these other meds during the 5-7 days of cold treatment. Really? you want to stop you heart meds and psych meds for a cold treatment?
I'm not sure if they actually put the man on this stuff or its another ploy to make a shiton of cash by saying "look the president is taking this stuff, so should you." Dr. Jha is a fricking idiot. Rarely are any meds stopped to use another med. Ever. Hey though, sales are brisk af, so guess its working. As a pharmacist, I can't really recommend this to anyone really...unless you are the tyoe to put a bandaid on a scratch. Sheesh. FTW
